Republican's are going to hate it when the next Democratic President declares a national emergency and uses military funds for some pet project... The truth of the matter is, an emergency is an acute and sudden problem. A national emergency is not a boarder that's been in existence since we won the Mexican-American War. Examples of emergencies: Pearl Harbor, 9-11, hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis, tornados, plane crashes, fires, etc. Examples of non-emergencies: A boarder that's been in existence since 1848, our airports are old and embarrassing, pot holes, natural disaster preparation, missing dessert. |
Hold the phone! You've got complex taxes and have a CPA and yet you're calling people out for getting a tax refund? Talk about apples and oranges! You are nothing like the normal person! |
The chocolate cake from Mir-a-Lago? He’s sad he didn’t get to go. ![]() |
Oh, the drama continues! This is reality show BS which we’re following with baited breath. Will he? Won’t he? Truman show. Meanwhile 800,000 ppl are going w/out paycheck and millions suffering from fall out. Mark Burnett taught Trump well. |
This might prompt some movement - large government contracts are at risk because of the shutdown. Executives at large government contractors = campaign donors.
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-01-07/shutdown-puts-200-million-a-day-in-federal-contracts-at-risk?srnd=premium We know Trump and members of Congress don't care about us, but they care about their donors. |
Fly that man the chocolate cake he missed, maybe that will make him feel better! ![]() |
You posted that the government does nothing for the middle class. I was saying that most middle class people are probably expecting refunds. I wasn’t including me in this discussion. You started that conversation. Yes, I realize I’m unusual as I own a small company. |
They don’t care. |
I work with offshore oil and gas lease sales. You don’t want that service? It brings in revenue and creates jobs. |
That was actually a typo, didn’t mean to say you aren’t good. Meant to say If you aren’t... typo that made it look like I was talking about you instead of the general public which I doubt can do this math |
Agree. Most people have a remedial understanding of taxes. They are extremely complicated. But I do safe harbor every year per my CPA’s guidelines. I pay a breath-taking amount in taxes, which I’m only angry about when I hear about rich people not paying their taxes. |
Off topic but there is no way in HELL he didn’t go to Mar-a-Lago for New Years. There was no marine stationed outside WH. I’m waiting for someone to leak images, which will eventually happen and his base will say, [insert excuse here]. |
I have a feeling the refund issue will end this shutdown. Or Congress will fund the IRS/Treasury on it’s own bill. |

How's this for a solution:
All the government workers I know "work" from home at least half time, with one guy working from home 4 days a week. They all do errands, house projects, etc., on government time and put in a few hours of actual work a day. So.....let's recall HALF of them, but make them go to the office and work full days. That way, the work is being done, albeit eliminating the redundant half. |
