IVF embryos are people too

New idea. Let's store embryos in schools and perhaps Republicans will care more about stopping school shootings.

This is going to sound very cold and cruel, but I honestly think that people who live in red states should not have access to blue state health care.... Several of my relatives hate the way Republicans are handling abortions and IVF but their answer is well. If I need to I can always travel to a blue state..... So they have absolutely zero motivation to switch their vote because the border is their number. One issue and women's health is their number two. If they were forced to have to live with a decisions that they are making, perhaps they would be making different decisions

Unsurprising. Wacko judge will probably arrest them for human trafficking by moving embryos across state lines.

I never thought of this but is a real possibility.

It was obvious IVF would be seriously impacted by the destruction of Roe. Anyone caught off guard was not paying attention at all.

This election.... understand the enormous risks of this unwelcome interference into people fertility decisions and vote accordingly.

I doubt it. Too many voters are apathetic.

I’ve drilled into my 18 and 20 yo sons that they and their friends are seriously affected by these policies. Way more so than we were. GenX parents.

Even if you don’t have or want kids or are abstinent. Lack of access to abortion negatively affects our economy and crime rates. It matters.

My 15 yr old DD is absolutely livid at how Rs are trying to control women's bodies. She and her friends can't wait to vote.

This should be a Biden campaign commercial.

Based on the forced birthers’ lack of interest in providing prenatal care, I can’t think this would move them much. They only care prenatally based on the amount of pain they can cause women and the amount of control they can exert.

Trump can't weasel out of this disaster. His supporters famously don't care about his awful decisions but fewer and fewer and fewer of the rest of the voters are interested and with good reason.

Melson, who chairs the Senate's Health Care Committee, said Thursday that he is planning to introduce legislation that would clarify that embryos are not viable unless they are implanted in a uterus.

This is a slippery slope. When is a fetus "viable"? A fetus with a genetic defect that cannot survive much after being born is not "viable". So, shouldn't the woman be able to abort such a fetus?

Too much gray area. That's the problem with these kinds of laws, and why politicians should stay away from defining medical terms and treatment.

Stupid a$$ Rs.

From the same article,
“Melson, a Republican, hopes his legislation will pass quickly so that Alabama's IVF clinics can continue to operate.“

Because lawmakers are not experts in reproductive health (this guy is apparently a Dr.) they are going to draft a weak bill full of holes. It’s going to cause more chaos and it would almost be fun watching the ChristoFacists twist themselves into knots if it wasn’t at the expense of women.

I REALLY, REALLY hope they use the language that the embryo needs to be “implanted in the uterus” to be considered a child.

If they do this, IMO this will eliminate the reasoning to refuse an abortion for an ectopic pregnancy.

Lets take this up to the supreme court and have a ruling on when life begins, I am ready for this I think it should be based on science about pain and consciousness, my thinking is life begins around 8 weeks

Any Republican trying to weasel out of this is a liar.

who are you to decide when "life" begins? Also, science hasn't proven that a fetus has "consciousness" at 8 weeks. It's all theory, but even so, they theorize that it develops at more like 12 to 14 weeks, but at minimal. There is some sensory at 24 weeks.

At 8 weeks, it is still considered an embryo, and not a fetus.
Terminology is important, y'all.

This is cold and cruel and does NOTHING to help those trapped in these facsist states who just happen to be born there or forced to move for job/family. And don't start with the They should just move. You are so ignorant.

If you really want to do something (besides writing on an anonymous message board) volunteer or donate to the Dem in the March 26 special election to flip a state house seat. Marilyn Lands is a pro-choice Dem running to repeal the no-exceptions abortion ban. She can win but needs help.

Flipping this seat will send a clear message that Americans aren't going to be ruled by a bunch of ChristoFascists. https://www.marilynlands.com/
