What do we think will happen on Monday?

I’d love this to be something future decision makers consider when they insist on calendars with an embarrassingly low number of five day weeks.

FCPS,needs to start cancelling all the cultural holidays stuck into the calendar, before adding days to late June.

These are unprecedented conditions for this area. What’s not unprecedented is FCPS being out for two weeks due to snow. If we go back Monday, it’s a political decision, not a safety decision.

We still have 7 more snow days to use before that becomes a possibility.

Exactly, and Reid is a political animal so I don’t trust her to make a decision based on safety. I imagine it would be her legal team that might convince her otherwise.

Yes, because this area is soft and lazy

This is a moot argument. Just a guess, but I’d say the majority have no interest in taking Greenland or Canada.

Ha thinly veiled threats you’re all going to sue FCPS. Classic DC.

Just got an email from our school:

“To help reduce congestion, school doors will open at 7:15 a.m. this week instead of 7:30 a.m. If there is a 2-hour delay, we will open at 9:15 a.m.”

There were police blocking a major intersection near our house tonight to allow bulldozers to fully clear lanes that were only partially clear.

I see no scenario where schools are closed Monday.

Better to ask the teachers to do their planning/training remotely in this week, then remove the planning days.

I’m not sure that email translates to “we are definitely opening.” It’s optimistic and if we do open, you now know kids can get in the building early. However, the decision to open or close is made by Gatehouse, not by any one school or teacher, so I don’t think any of us will know for sure until Reid posts her announcement.

They need to scrap the metal detectors until the weather warms above the teens.

High school students should not be standing outside in long lines during this weather.

I agree that some people are being a bit ridiculous at this point, but Canada and Greenland have the resources to deal with this type of storm. It's not the same. I live in New England and had to drive to work in the worst of it and then drive the next morning when it had snowed a ton over night. The drive was rough but doable because we have the town/city resources to work overnight and throughout the next day so that people could travel. DS only had 1 day off school and a 2 hr delay the following day because plows worked overtime to get all the roads clear (and I live in an area with a lot of small, country roads).

Please. I’m not thinking or myself. I’m thinking of all the angry and litigious parents who populate the county, and I’m trying to predict what Reid will do based on potential pitfalls of opening. I don’t see her as a sincerely caring person (just my impression ), so I’m agreeing with the PP that opening would mean politics trumped safety concerns in her decision making process.
