Pete Hedgseth for Secretary of Defense

Everything we read about Trump and these choices he's making read like headlines in the National Inquirer. "Woman who shoots pet dog in cold blood put in charge of immigrant children!" "Man with dead brainworm and mercury poisoning to head Department of Health!" "Egaetz! Man accused of sexual indecencies with underage girls to be Attorney General of the US!" "Pretty boy Pete of Fox News credentials set to head Don's DOD. Too odd!" "Very low bar set for low bar cabinet!" Can it get anymore dreary?

Yes, not that I care or anything.

Biden had three children, two of which turned out to be drug addicted.

Kamala's husband, Doug Emhoff, slaps women.

Get off the cross. We need the wood.

DP. Thank you. So sick of sanctimonious liberals who pretend to be pious and holier-than-thou, all while peddling their own complete sh!tshow - one that the nation has rejected soundly.

DP. Are you unfamiliar with the military? They actually have rules about all of this stuff - the Secretary of Defense should know about them and follow them, right?

The only time I’ve seen a service member punished for an affair under UCMJ was if the affair partner was another service member’s spouse (makes for some hard feelings at work!) or if the affair partner was also a service member and it was fraternization, or if the affair comprised their duty/mission/security.

A National Gaurd solider having an affair with a civilian is unlikely to be prosecuted, which is exactly why he wasn’t.

They don’t necessarily get punished under UCMJ, but they do get sidelined. And the stigma that comes with making bad decisions follows them professionally. It’s going to require some serious acting skills for the JCS to pretend to respect this guy.

Oh, please. Absolutely no doubt plenty of these people have their own skeletons.

Yeah, there are likely more affair partners of senate members than there are of members themselves, if you totaled them up.

According to many DCUM posters, affairs and babies born to single mothers are no big deal.

For the millionth time, there are actually rules about this in the military. And consequences. I get that only 1% serve, but the fact that the military has different rules than the rest of the population is pretty elementary.

Like Gen. Petraeus getting an Army Distinguished Service Medal when he retired with a yearly pension of over $200,000?

- after having an affair, no less.

You can read about them in the link below.

The difference this time around--and what concerns people in the military establishment and others--is that Hedgseth is not only much less qualified (lack of commanding experience aside, he doesn't have much managerial experience) but seems to have been chosen primarily because he will do whatever Trump tells him and he does a good job on TV. This time around, Trump has been very deliberate about choosing "yes men" (and women) who are loyal to him rather than to the country. The first time around he selected more conventional appointees that were recommended to him by the GOP establishment.

How about this guy, appointed by Obama? He was academic. Nothing wrong with that, but you claiming a Sec Defense needs prior command experience and/or managerial experience doesn’t quite fly here, does it?

Beyond irrelevant. The Weekend News Czar is completely unqualified and just there to do Trump's unhinged bidding.

When these unqualified appointees are confronted with the cold hard facts career staff will share with them when they take office, what will they do?

Trump seems to be appointing folks that are skeptics about everything the departments they will lead, do.

That is not entirely horrible, if they aren’t corrupt or compromised, just stupid. Skeptics can be convinced. Criminals can’t be trusted.

Here we’ve got someone who cannot be trusted. It’s a problem.

All true, but Petraeus also plead guilty to sharing classified information and was sentenced to for it (probation). And that was AFTER a very distinguished military career. No one has nominated him for a Cabinet position since.

Leaving Hegseth's moral failings aside, he's not qualified, period.

And to the person that keeps bringing up Ash Carter - here's a snippet of his bio:

"Carter began his career as a physicist. After a brief experience as an analyst for the Congressional Office of Technology Assessment, he switched careers to public policy. He joined the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University in 1984 and became chair of the International & Global Affairs faculty.[4] Carter served as Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Policy during President Clinton's first term, from 1993 to 1996, responsible for policy regarding the former Soviet states, strategic affairs, and nuclear weapons.

During President Obama's first term, he served first as Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics and then Deputy Secretary of Defense until December 2013. In February 2015, he replaced Chuck Hagel as Secretary of Defense and served until the end of the Obama administration."

If Trump wanted to appoint Hegseth to an Undersecretary position (which I think he's still unqualified for), that might fly. But it would still be clear that it's because he's a good looking talking head yes man, not because he brings any relevant experience to the table.

So he wasn't vetted, this time. And previously, he didn't last long.

Poor Susan Wiles. She needs to duplicate herself so that Trump is never out of her sight, ever. Or resign.

He paid the victim, had her sign an NDA, but he denies any wrong doing.
