The difference this time around--and what concerns people in the military establishment and others--is that Hedgseth is not only much less qualified (lack of commanding experience aside, he doesn't have much managerial experience) but seems to have been chosen primarily because he will do whatever Trump tells him and he does a good job on TV. This time around, Trump has been very deliberate about choosing "yes men" (and women) who are loyal to him rather than to the country. The first time around he selected more conventional appointees that were recommended to him by the GOP establishment.
