OMG! Yes! Most people do NOT need to go to therapy. Going to therapy is not something to be proud of and is not something that should be talked about publicly. I have several friends who go to therapy and I have to try not to visibly cringe when they talk about it. Sometimes I want to scream at them, "Stop talking about your therapist!"

There's nothing shameful about therapy and honestly how do you know who does or does not need to go to therapy? Also you are likely not a very good friend if a friend is talking about therapy and you "visibly cringe."

I agree with the PP. Most therapy is a racket. If it helps someone feel better, great, but stop talking about it all the time. I hate the way the vocabulary pervades everything now and the over-therapized want to diagnose everyone.

I was just telling my dad the same thing last night. My sister is one of the most toxic people I know, with very little self-awareness. She's been in therapy her entire adult life (47), and it appears to have made her worse. I told my dad in defense of the therapist that they can only guide my sister based on the skewed info she provides of reality. Therapists should require external perspectives so they can have half a chance of actually helping the person.

Really? I think they are interesting, engaging, and tend to be great storytellers. The only people I know who do not like New Yorkers tend to be those who have spent little, if any, time in New York, sadly.

If you are not a city person, I get it - but New York people don't call you Country Bumpkins - so don't fault them for being born and raised somewhere else, because then it suggests you may hate yourself. DC is not the only place in the world, try to explore more places.

Yes, really. And I have family from NYC. They are always looking at the country, damnit the world, through this NYC lens.

Also, why did you attack me and say I should explore more places? I went to law school in NYC and practiced there for almost 10 years because part of my family is there. I've explored plenty of places and this has nothing to do with DC. Just like ADHD focused people have nothing to do with DC, or therapy people, dog people, vegans, every damn thing listed on this thread. You should think before you write.

This is so funny because New Yorkers are the ones who think nowhere exists outside of New York. And that people born and raised in what they call “flyover” are lesser . I want to say to each and every one of them- hey, manhattan is not the only place in the world! Try to explore more places!

They like a lot of places, globally. They just tend to sneer at most of the US outside of a few major cities, but they are generally passport holders who travel a lot ("unlike the rubes in flyover country...

A lot of New Yorkers barely leave the city. Especially if they are from there and their family is there. The New Yorkers who travel a lot are either (1) suuuuuuper rich, so they can afford both COL in NYC and to travel extensively, and (2) are from somewhere else, necessitating at least some travel to see family.

Born and bred New Yorkers can be very insular. They can have other good qualities, but IME do not tend to be very worldly. Sure, they will tell you about how great Zabars is but have very little interest in anything that is not NY-centric.

Which is funny, because NYC is miles behind the rest of the in terms of cleanliness, homelessness, migrant crisis… etc etc. Its every entry point (Bronx/Queens/Hudson County by train, LGA/JFK/EWR by air) features decaying slums and third-world infrastructure. Undoubtedly one of the worst major cities in America

Religious people who have to post about their religion all the time

SAHMs with kids in school full time who go on and on about how busy they are. With home decorating choices, going to the gym, driving their kids to activities...stop going on and on about it, especially to your friends who work full time.

Guess what- I am a stay at home mom with no help and I am busier than my friends who work full time. They get a break from their kids and houses. I’m expected to do it all even with little ones hanging onto me constantly.
