In theory yes but probably wise to have some food that does not have to be cooked or refrigerated because if for some reason the electricity goes then what will you do. Chewing on dry raw pasta and sipping tomato sauce is only funny for the first few minutes.

Now the crazies are coming out. Can you please explain how Coronavirus is going to impact the availability of electricity?
It’s like some people are hoping to see bare shelves on the news when we literally have no solid evidence of immediate danger in this country right now. Possibility, yes. Evidence, no.

That would be some type of whack super bug if it can kill our electricity. One things for certain, while you preppers are bugging out, it's best to be bugging in place if this goes full on viral.

No silly, it is still winter here and in most of the northern states, if you get a bug and the electricity goes down due to snow storm it ia double whammy.

He's hanging in his hotel, says that they are aware of his situation. He sightsees a little bit during the early morning and late evening hours when it isn't crowded. Mostly taking meals in his room through room service.

There are no cases in Vicenza but it is located in the Veneto region where a number of cases have been found.

"As a precautionary measure USAG Italy will close all Vicenza Military Community (VMC) DODEA schools and activities, CDC, and CYS activities, fitness centers on Ederle and Del Din, AAFES post theater and chapel worship services from Monday through Wednesday, Feb 24-26," Col. They are just closing for three days?? What do they think that will accomplish?

Pretty sure this is their first shot to limit "panic." They will see how the spread goes and re-evaluate.

Maybe it is a new exposure since they were around sick. You can get a flu twice so maybe this too?

Russia doesn’t have any capacity to deal with the virus. They don’t have basic equipment, personnel, training and tests.
We’ll find out it’s there when people start dying in large numbers.

I thought the US would be on top of this. But now it’s clear we are way behind, with barely any testing capacity.

I don’t know if incompetence or politics is the problem, but it surprising and alarming.

CDC communication has been quite poor; on a par with WHO. The test snafus were poorly handled, as was the lack of preparation with the city of Costa Mesa for the move of patients there.

Also, as far as I know, they have not rescinded their instructions to only test suspects with recent China contact. This is unsustainable in light of what we are seeing in South Korea, Italy, and Iran.

I did read somewhere that CDC is going for DNA testing, which is far more accurate, rather than RNA testing, which produces a fair amount of false negatives but what other countries are doing. The better testing takes more time and assembly of kits is apparently more challenging.

If this is the case, they really need to be talking about it. I also read somewhere kits wouldn't be ready for widespread distribution until mid-March.

I really hope they get their act together on the public information front soon. I am sure they are doing a lot behind the scenes.

And here in Fairfax, FCPS's web site, which is way out of date (2/6/20) given the fluid situation, is telling parents:

"The number of novel coronavirus infections in countries other than China remains very low."

https://www.fcps.edu/news/coronavirus-update

This is certainly no longer the case given the developments over the past week in places like South Korea, Italy, and Iran. If they don't have the staff to keep up with the fluidity of the situation, I wish they would just refer to CDC. At least CDC updates 3x a week. (Of course CDC should be updating at least daily, but I assume (hope) they are directing resources toward fighting the virus.) There is a new CDC travel warning about South Korea, and FCPS needs to acknowledge that given the demographics of the students/families in the school system.

Would not be easier to ask Korean gov to send planes and take them back?

Use your imagination and it is possible that we could lose more than mobility during a local pandemic. Suppose the power goes out and utility repairs are slowed by absenteeism due to worker illnesses?
