So what is going to happen if a person from Italy gets on a cruise ship and brings coronavirus with it, and now the ship needs to be quarantined?

No one is going to want to accept responsibility for any more cruise ships.

Meanwhile in other travel related news: Austria stopped a train coming in from Italy because they thought two women (German citizens?) had the virus. Turns out they didn't, but if they had would they have been refused entry? What about everyone else on the train? Would they be quarantined?

From this article it seems that all train traffic has been suspended until tomorrow at least between the two countries.

Austria stops train traffic with Italy at Brenner

On board a train from Venice to Munich, two German women are said to have shown fever symptoms. However, a test for the corona virus was negative.

Due to suspected coronavirus infection among train passengers, Austria stopped rail traffic with Italy at the Brenner Pass.

The Austrian state railway company ÖBB announced on Sunday evening that all train connections to the neighboring country were suspended because two passengers coming from Italy were suspected of being infected with the corona virus. ÖBB wrote on Twitter that traffic would not be resumed on Sunday.

In addition to the Brenner, there is only one other border crossing between Italy and Austria where trains run, a spokesman for the ÖBB told SPIEGEL. Since there would no longer be any trains on Sunday evening, traffic with the bilateral burner lockout was completely stopped.

As the OP of the travel thread on Rethinking Business travel, I got lots of snarky comments that I must have an untreated anxiety disorder or am paranoid for reconsidering travel to Alabama for three weeks of training in April. I wasn't particularly concerned with Alabama itself, just all the unknowns during a dynamic time. This kind of proves the point.

So for those who were making fun of the suggestions to stock on food, here are a couple of pictures from Milan's stores today. Remember, a week ago there were no coronavirus cases in Italy. Better to prepare than not.

There was no need for this to happen. With careful messaging and prepartion people can be reassured that supplies will keep coming.

Italy now has to pull out all the stops and get those stores resupplied pronto.

Unless someone will start pulling ranks, individual states might be forced to take care of their own citizens from the cruise that need services.

This is interesting. Posted on the Johns Hopkins virus page.

“ NEW RESEARCH SUGGESTS VIRUS DID NOT ORIGINATE IN MARKET

The South China Morning Post reported that new research published by scientists affiliated with the Chinese Academy of Science and Chinese Institute for Brain Research suggest the possibility that SARS-CoV-2 did not originate at the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market but that the highly populated market boosted transmission of the virus. The researchers analyzed 93 virus samples from 12 countries and concluded that there were possibly two population expansions on December 8 and January 6. More research is needed to further assess the origins of the virus.”

Why do they keep calling it SARSCov2? Haven’t they settled forCOVID 19?
What do they mean by two population expantions?

I'm amazed there hasn't been another cruise ship incident like the Diamond Princess to be honest.

If you have HIV (the virus) you will develop AIDS (the illness).

If you have SARScov2 (the virus) you will develop COVID19 (the illness).

Current global economic growth remains slow with the coronavirus outbreak posing the greatest risk, finance ministers and central bankers meeting at the G20 summit in Saudi Arabia said in a statement.

Despite that outlook, the G20 said that global economic growth is expected to pick up "modestly" in 2020 and 2021.
