We have a pretty robust Zoom schedule and we are in Burgundy 1st grade.

1st grade has a robust zoom schedule? I can say 7th grade is not “robust.” On Thursday, my Burgundy 7th grader had one zoom class. Yes, one hour of class for the entire day. Hardly robust or age appropriate.

??? My 7th grader had two classes on Thursday (her lightest day) and three on Friday, plus assignments for asynchronous work times. I thought it was pretty good.

What do you mean by “???” You do realize there are 3 cohorts with 3 different schedules, right? My child had one class, science, and no other classes on Thursday. Unacceptable. Asynchronous assignments are homework assignments, not instruction.

I didn't realize the cohorts were so different. My kid has three synchronous classes and one asynchronous hour per day, except on Thursdays when it's two and two. It's not ideal but it's pretty good.

7th grade cohorts are on campus 2.5 hours: 9-11:30. Granted, not 3 hours like 6th and 8th, but not 1.5. Unlike 6th grade, they are also spending an overnight at the Cove in September.

n overnight at the Cove? Will there be testing beforehand? That sounds like a recipe for a super spreader event.

Everyone will be masked while at the Cove and sleeping in their own tents overnight. Pretty safe outdoor set up with a small group (about 10 kids per cohort) on 600+ acres of land in remote WV. Very unlikely it wi be a “superspreader” event. They’ve had camp groups there all summer with no issues.

First graders get 90 minutes once a week. Praying we return to campus because while thus far, DL has been really good (for DL, which can never compare to in person), it requires a lot of oversight and pulls us away from work, which is not sustainable long-term.

What the hell? Who makes these completely inequitable schedules. It should 100% be an equal amount of time on campus for each grade. MAKE IT HAPPEN. We are all paying the same tuition. I have completely HAD it with this school and their ridiculous decision making!

Correction - 8th grade has 3 hours (but double 7th grade hours on campus).

What? Middle school gets more time on campus than early elementary? This makes no sense. Kindergarteners and first graders don't learn well over zoom.

Nothing Burgundy does makes sense these days. On October 1st we will SUPPOSEDLY switch to 5 day a week half days, rather than the hybrid model EVERY other school is planning (rotating full days a school and days at home). Who cares if parents have to work. Parents need to be a team player here, stop complaining online and figure out a way to pick up their kids at noon each day. No carpools outside your cohort allowed! But let’s be honest, they know it will be DL all year, so logistics don’t really matter.

Their reopening plan is entirely illogical and not supported by public health or epidemics. When the weather best supports outdoor learning they only bring JK on. But once flu season starts they will bring EVERYONE on?! And they are not doing it phased. Just JK and then bam everyone else a month later. They should be phasing JK and K and 1 on a weekly basis in September. And I say this as a burgundy parent of older children who would not benefit from this arrangement.

They aren’t planning on going back, it’s not even on the table. Just a hunch. It’s embarrassing. The one school in the area that’s suppose to be the “outside all day school” can’t get their sh*t together. They are waiting for flu season and cold weather to bring people back... please

It is mind boggling. Is it the board, administration or teachers responsible for this mayhem?
Anonymous
My guess is the teachers.
Anonymous
The lower school teachers. Judging by that’s who is on campus the least.

I think it's teacher resistance too. This is evidenced by the fact that JK is on campus. If it was the school calling the shots, at least K and 1st would also be on campus.

I'm saying this as someone who LOVES Burgundy's JK, K, 1st, and lower elementary school teachers overall. They need to get comfortable with the idea of safely returning to campus as long as our region is in Phase X or better. If we wait for a vaccine, we won't be on campus until the end of 2021 at the earliest, and Burgundy will have seen its demise by then.

Lower school teachers refused to go in. That’s what happened. And now they will refuse themselves out of a job.

Teachers are freaked out and admin is at fault for poor response to teacher concerns.
