I agree. So you rush to pick up your kid at lunch and then you have to figure out distance learning and childcare in the afternoon? Hard pass.

Can anyone explain why they are doing 1/2 days? I am sure the teachers will protest in October too and school will be online indefinitely.

I feel like they are just saying it to desperately try to appease people but they will stay remote in October.

+1 They will stay remote - probably all year. The teachers aren’t going to suddenly change their minds about in person school unless there is a vaccine.

They will stay remote all year…they are saying October to string parents along

It is truly appalling to me that these places feel that they can charge people 35K for virtual school for elementary and middle school students. Parents are going to push back so hard and they should. If the school can’t provide what it promised, it should provide a tuition reduction accordingly.

Is it all DL or a hybrid?
Anonymous
All money should be refunded. Their DL is on par with or worse than public. No one sends their kid there for the academics. If the campus isn’t available for the kids the value of that place zero.

As a former parent I find this appalling. This school is the best situated to structure outdoor learning. They need to fire teachers who refuse. And to be honest that might be a good thing since it’s time for some of those teachers to move on.

Agree. The whole value is in the campus, which is pretty nice. Their DL is garbage and the quality of the teachers has always been mediocre.

Interesting that Browne is still proceeding with opening plans.

The teaching has always been pretty inconsistent, so I agree with your statement. A lot of them were honestly pretty lazy and I can see them being exactly the type to demand distance learning so they can phone in their half hour a week or whatever minimal amount they're doing and check out.

I can’t copy and quote but I don’t think it is unexpected that Browne would confine in person. The school was having enrollment issues previously and this could be a way for it to make a comeback.

The anonymous online petition posted by the Washington Post was signed by 17 Burgundy teachers. I am sure the number refusing to go in person is even higher. If they fire 17+ teachers, that is basically the entire lower school teaching staff.

I am the PP and that’s even worse and quite frankly I am disgusted by those teachers who for years have been spouting off to parents how much they love incorporating the outdoors, nature, science and the environment into every day classes. I can see that none of them really ever believed that. I am glad my child has graduated and while we had planned to continue on giving each year to the annual fund that won’t be happening since the school and teachers clearly don’t embrace any of the supposed values or guiding principals they have always claimed 😞 I feel bad for parents who are stuck paying the huge titition cost this year ...

Honestly, if the teachers are behind this, they should be ashamed of themselves. Children and parents are the LAST ones who are being considered by teachers and administrators. If you have a kid in K or 1st, you might as well call the tuition a wash and find another way to educate your child.

Thanks for nothing, Burgundy.

Do you know where this can be found? And how do we know there were Burgundy teachers on it - did they identify themselves? If you've a link, I'd love to see it!

We are stopping our monthly payments. I now need to hire child care and can’t pay pay 35K for remote learning and 30K for child care. No thanks, and good luck to anyone who actually thinks we will be on campus in October.
