Burgundy Farm

I sent it to friends at Burgundy. All of our reactions were that it was a dangerous, dumb money grab.

I saw their ads too. We live in Alexandria and know a lot of angry families,

Pp here. We know people who made big sacrifices to put their kid in Burgundy next year because distance learning didn’t work for their kids.

I was looking at them for my kids but no way now.

Okay, so what we are learning across all schools is that teachers’ wants and needs come before anyone else’s.

Got it.

Exactly.

I am not sure what else the HOS could have done, if almost all teachers are refusing to teach in person. Hard to hold class if there are no teachers! I agree with the other posters that parents needed to be given a HUGE heads up about this likelihood a few weeks ago. Also, having the kids eventually return to school for 1/2 days is idiotic. Many parents will have to get child care for the other 1/2 of the day. Why wouldn’t you do a hybrid model?

It's also hard to operate a school if the parents decide to pull their kids out because they can't perform their number one mission:operate a school. Almost every other independent school in the area announced they're opening. It looks like there's a significant lack of testicular fortitude at the top.

Fire the teachers and refund parents.

As a new incoming family, we feel misled. Just last month, they posted about outdoor hand-washing stations they were installing all over campus and had another posting with the following statements.

“Burgundy’s wooded 26-acre Alexandria campus is uniquely suited to accommodate social distancing as we prepare for the 2020-21 school year. It boasts outdoor learning spaces, exterior decking on all academic buildings, two outdoors stages, natural play spaces, a barn, and numerous playgrounds.”

Was really thinking we’d get at least Sept and Oct for outdoor classes. What a disappointment.

They should do the right thing allow parents the opportunity to withdraw now and give a tuition refund. They could use the PPP loan funds to cover the lost tuition revenue.

The HOS should DO HIS JOB and manage the teachers and school!

1/2 day hybrid is useless. Who wants to drop off their kid and go back and get them at noon every day? Why not cohorts and alternating days or weeks?

I agree. So you rush to pick up your kid at lunch and then you have to figure out distance learning and childcare in the afternoon? Hard pass.

Can anyone explain why they are doing 1/2 days? I am sure the teachers will protest in October too and school will be online indefinitely.

I feel like they are just saying it to desperately try to appease people but they will stay remote in October.
