Military observations on Ukraine invasion

What moron was telling Putin that?

They basically had that when they annexed Crimea. That’s not what they’re going after now.

No, they didn’t. They tried very hard to destabilize Odesa like they did with Luhansk & Donetsk but didn’t manage to. They had crimea but nothing of the rest if the coast. If they manage to take all the Ukrainian coastline, then they’ll be in control of Northern coast of Black Sea from Abkhazia to borders of Romania. Make your guess which country would be targeted next.

Seemingly the FSB.

As discussed above, they had a better army than it appears Russia is.

Correction to pp - Iraq had a better army than Ukraine and Russia.

It is like we are watching Blue jello wrestle a paraplegic. Ukraine had no intention of fighting, but was better prepared than 2014.

Ukraine does not have the cash for big weapon systems and obviously like 50% of Russias budget was embezzled.

People fight differently when they fight for their homeland. The Russian soldiers don’t know what they are doing there and fight accordingly. Remember the only ppl in the Russian army are those with no better alternatives.

Come to think of it, not that different from here, it’s rare to see sons of Mc and umc in uniform.

Not quite the same. Russia has conscription. Everyone has to do 2 years.

Lol you have SO much to learn about the way draft works in Russia.

+1
Anyone who can avoid the army does so. My coworkers have spoken of arranging for fake medical papers to get their younger family members back home out of having to sever.

I hear bone spurs are useful to avoid the draft of rich people

The ex-military folks and veterans seem to agree that Russia would ideally be able to resupply every day. That long convoy that was stuck meant a delay of food and ammunition deliveries. And they can’t get adequate control of Hostomel to bring in more supplies easily. They do better in the south because they can resupply with ships and there’s less mud.

But still they do not have enough people to take over the country. I suppose that’s why they decided to destroy as much as they can.

He apparently decided that for himself.

Not quite. That viewpoint is pretty prevalent among the folks in his inner circle.

Granted, I’m a little behind but just listened to a Frontline podcast with Julia Ioffe. She feels that Putin’s inner circle circle has shrunk to only a few advisors who may be crazier than Putin is. She feels he will not stop until he has ground Ukraine “to a fine dust”.

His inner circle has been shrinking for several years, and he has always had advisors who are crazier than him.

I think it's long past time that we stopped calling them crazy. They're just stupid. Crazy gives them too much credit. They're actually thinking this through and planning these fiascos. It's all been intentional. They're just stupid.

I don’t think they’re stupid. I think they’re overconfident, extreme, brutal, and cruel nationalists.

Everyone is afraid of him.

When you have such fear of your boss, you get into the habit of only telling him “yes.”

He has surrounded himself with subservient “yes men.”

That’s pretty much every authoritarian leader.

Yes that is what he said he wants to do. You really do not need a pod cast for that revelation.
