I know one of them and he is not a legacy

I think you to be very brave - or very hooked - to apply ED to Dartmouth from this area. Dartmouth in the ED round is not accessible for 98 percent of bright unhooked students in the DC area. It's a very small school that is very particular about where they take their students from. And it's not unhooked students from either the suburban schools or the privates here - by and large.

Major bump meaning no way would get in otherwise?

One of the NCS girls is, as the previous poster said, daughter of a VIP and very hooked. Visited Dartmouth this fall and stayed with another VIP’s kid from another DC prep school. The other is an athlete.

VIP meaning national name recognition? Political or entertainment/athlete type?

VIP as in the parent made it up and can’t cope that their kid didn’t get in.

VIP as in very very wealthy

DD got flat rejected. I expected a deferral, frankly. 4.0 UW all advanced/AP classes at NJ public. 1550 and 35 (one and done on both), all 5s on APs. Strong but not exceptional XCs and essays. Oh well. Their loss.
