We all know who it is, but do you really need to blast info about the kid online? Yes, VIP kids get a boost. I am sure she is also a great student. Act like an adult here, PP.

Aren't the parents both Georgetown alums?

Love the "this is for DC families only" meltdowns on this site. That ship has sailed. Maybe the parents of the local privates in town can set up a discord acct, or just chat in person at the country club or at parent pickup.

Dartmouth really should be considered as a regional liberal arts college. But it's an old school, and they've been coasting off the Ivy brand for a long time and get the national attention.

Arent they all?

"The term Ivy League is used more broadly to refer to the eight schools that belong to the league, which are globally renowned as elite colleges associated with academic excellence, highly selective admissions, and social elitism."

Yes. The siblings are also at Georgetown.

The problem is that very few of you say anything that's even remotely useful to the vast majority of it. What good is posting "in from west coast private" going to do for anyone on here? I might as well post "landed on Mars." It's no less helpful.

It's just odd that people like you are choosing to participate so actively on a website that you know is not designed for you and only to offer such vague and useless information. Yes, we know colleges are accepting kids from schools on the west coast. We don't care.

I'm a DMV public school parent btw. Not private.

Dartmouth has stated their goal is to increase visibility in the West and South so those areas are geographic pluses. That was pretty clear last year and likely continues.

Where did you hear about this stated goal?

Sorry this happened.

I don’t think that “one and done” matters at all for schools that allow superscore. All 5s don’t matter that much either at schools that are more holistic in review.

It’s the exceptional ECs, essays, and recommendation letters that can actually help an applicant’s chances. It’s tough to stand out academically when so many applicants have similar stats. Differentiating yourself is really important at these highly rejective schools.

NJ is one of the toughest application environments in the country (along with MA and CA).

Preference was South and West was mentioned in one of the Dartmouth podcasts last year, sorry I do not remember which one.

Yep, we know. I honestly don't think exceptional essays and recs make a difference for UMC kids in very competitive areas. Dartmouth is too small and has too many institutional priorities that DD doesn't fulfill. And we were perhaps overly optimistic given the ED stats in our school's Scoir, but those stats don't convey whether previous applicants were legacies. Anyway, I'm confident in the end she'll have lots of choices and wind up somewhere that is great for her.
