Agreed. The whole campaign plot line was unbelievable and boring from the start. And I really don’t care that Nicky is alive because he is an unlikeable character. The show seems to be losing its way and is more focused on plot twists than character development.

I hope the Nicky/Vietnam plot doesn't take over the show like Don Draper/Dick Whitman on Mad Men. The endless rehashing made the show nearly unwatcheable for me. Seems like they are angling for a relative of Jack who might have been or maybe is still alive, but they are dragging out way too many plot twists to get to the point.

The campaign is nothing more than a plot to knock Randall off his pedestal. We knew had flaws, but suddenly choosing to serve a community where his father lived over his family has sharply dimmed his shining star status. People do choose their jobs over their family at times and sometimes every time, but the campaign is making him seem like a detached ass. I don't want him to win the election, but something tells me he will like a scandal will come out about the current councilman or a health scare something so that he wins.

I think he's going to win. He'll stick it out and the enthusiastic reception he received at the debate will trickle out to others, and all of a sudden his poll numbers will go up. He and Beth will not get a divorce (not sure why that's being floated? They had an argument!). And after he wins, we'll have to listen to all sorts of boring, city business that will put us to sleep because it's so mundane. Yawn.

I was the one who floated this idea. The flash forward came right after the argument about the campaign. And it felt like they are now (long time later, both graying) distant from each other.

The framework for the campaign argument really did seem stupid. Issues with "the numbers" would have been already known, not out of the blue, he certainly wasn't killing it (and what happened to all those Korean-American voters? They don't count anymore??). It was all pretty forced.


But, apparently I'm not the only one who thought divorce. I just googled "This is us Randall divorce". It's all over the place.

I thought Divorce also. You are not alone. I think it is probably a trick, but I am actually surprised people could watch it and think it was just a fight.

When I see scenes like that I wonder if there really are people in real life who can handle tough conversations so well and make it authentic. and when Rebecca sits next to Tess in the auditorium and talks about holding in feelings. it makes me feel inadequate like I could never be that wise

Definitely Tess. My daughter about the same age came out to us a little less than a year ago. Pretty similar struggle for her to reveal despite being very close and, I thought, super accepting. So I feel like the scene with Tess, Beth, and Randall was so well written and well-acted.

The show returns on the 15th! I just caught up on the last episode, and I am completely torn about whether or not I think Randall and Beth divorced. That was my first thought with the flash forward, after the fight and then with him asking test about her mom, but maybe there could be another reason for him to ask.

I want them to be together. Liking Kevin and Kate more now too

I’m glad that Beth and Randall made up, but the heavy lifting still fell on her. Is Kate showing growth but supporting Toby? I liked that Kevin didn’t act like a selfish asshat when Zoe told him why she has a hard time living with someone. He would have either joked or brushed it off before.

I don’t get where the Nicky story is going at all.
