If things get worse for Jewish people

Anonymous
I’m a secular Jew, raised pretty religious. I don’t agree with everything Israel does, and I think Netanyahu has been very bad for the country.

But the issue is also more nuanced than I think a lot of the college students who are protesting understand.

But I also think you can criticize Israel and not be antisemitic.

But I also think that line tends to get crossed and some people without a sense of history don’t even know when they’re crossing it.

Antisemitism never went away. Russia was always extremely antisemitic. That’s a big part of why Israel was formed.

I don’t personally feel unsafe in my community. Haven’t taken down my mezuzah. But I also don’t go to temple. I’ve seen some isolated incidents. It’s not changing how I vote. I’m an American, and Republicans don’t stand for what I believe in.

Unfortunately, American Jews are indoctrinated to believe that everything Israel does is great. On the other hand, I am still a Zionist if that means I want Israel to exist.

My child is a member of another more targeted minority group in the US. So very liberal colleges are still a much better place for them.

The hostages aren’t in Philly! So why put them up in Philly?

I’ve never understood the hostage flyers

I can’t really understand the need some people have to rip them up. Are people who do this just miserable?

I was the OP of the thread about being concerned about suppression/retaliation of pro-palestine speech. There should be zero issue with the hostage posters, clearly the point is to call attention to the fact that there are 200 plus hostages still kidnapped with Hamas. We do not get to choose the speech that we want highlighted or permitted just because it fosters our own personal or political agenda.

+1 We need to humanize the hostage. Dead Palestinians, not so much

Honestly, my heart hurts reading this comment.

Speaking at Shura, Weisberg described in graphic detail how one badly charred body turned out to be two victims – a mother and a baby bound together in a deep embrace.

Another victim, he said, was a pregnant woman, her stomach cut open, her fetus pulled out and beheaded. The umbilical cord was still attached.

"When you think about evil, you realize it is beyond comprehension when you see what this terror organization did," the rabbi said.

"I’ve seen things that no one should ever see," said Shari, describing how many of the dead women arrived still wearing their pajamas, their heads blown off and some booby-trapped with grenades.

"We saw evidence of rape," Shari stated. "Pelvises were broken, and it probably takes a lot to break a pelvis… and this was also among grandmothers down to small children. These are things we saw with our own eyes."

We understand that horrible, inhuman, brutal acts were committed against innocent Israeli victims during the terrorist attack. Serious people do not deny this. Anyone who cheers this or thinks it was somehow deserved is a broken, twisted, horrible person.

But I am really not sure why PPs keep rehashing the brutalities of 10/7 here. What's the purpose? These people were victims of a horrible terrorist attack. There have been many horrible terrorist attacks, war crimes, etc. committed against all stripes of people throughout history. It is horrible and it should be condemned. What else are you saying beyond that?

Let me help you understand.
The attack suffered by Israel on 10/7 is why we are where we are. There would be no war in Israel had it not been for this brutal attack. These savages didn't attack the military as a government would do in a legitimate war. No, they went after civilians who had no defense. They went after women and children. They shot them. They beheaded some. They tortured many. They raped some. They burned them alive. They bombed some. And, they baked babies in an oven.
These are not the actions of "normal" people. These are not the actions of people trying to seize land or territory. These are the actions of brutally hateful savages. These are the actions of people that have no right to walk the earth among peace loving people.
I hope people continue to remind you, and others, of the brutality that happened that day. Because so many protests today - even in the US - are in support of Hamas... the brutal savages who carried out these acts. It is the responsibility of people everywhere to continue to remind the world what these savages did and why Israel is forced to take action.
Hope this helps with your understanding.

DP - I have not seen a single protest in the U.S. supportive of Hamas. I am sympathetic of the Israeli victims, but the lies being spread about how everyone who objects to Israel's bombing innocent civilians is a Hamas supporter are ridiculous.

Muslim pro-Palestinians dressed in the same attire as Hamas burned the Israeli flag yesterday and assaulted 3 Jewish students at a protest. They were not students but where did they come from then? Locally in New Orleans? I don’t know. Three were arrested.

One of the largest supporters of Jews and Israel is none other than Steve Bannon

I am liberal but I must say from what I’m hearing and reading and seeing on TV the Republicans are way more supportive of Jewish people and Israel then Democrats. Biden is doing a good job and trying to walk a fine line by not upsetting either side too much but the Republicans are speaking out so far if I were Jewish which I am not I would feel much safer with Republicans in power.

They always have been. Bannon, Posobiec, even the hated Mike Lindell. It’s all been a lie. I’ve been to many CPACs and there are people wearing Yarmulkes everywhere. Never been an issue. I’ve been to Trump rallies where there are many of mixed ethnicities and the only people escorted out are white supremacists - come in with a message of hate and security doesn’t even have to do it - regular “MAGAS” as they are called - ensure you leave on your own accord. Civil people who clean up after themselves. Did you know that there are still people incarcerated without trial for over a year who “participated” in 1/6? In our country of due process. Very sad state. Every night, despite being beat up when they do it, there is a mass singing of our National Anthem by those incarcerated for 1/6. Every night.

There are 3 colleges my son was supposed to apply to that are now on the chopping block. Does that answer your question?

Curious as to which 3. Wasn’t there an incident at Brandeis? I thought I heard something and was super shocked. Like how can Brandeis not be safe?!

Brandeis is only about 35% Jewish. People who hate Jews tend to target places they know we’ll be.

I thought it was an incident within the student body. It would surprise me that people who hate Jews would actually choose to go to Brandeis just to be jerks to Jews there.

What was written at Cornell I don’t think it was a student. It was beyond disturbing.

Have you seen any posters of dead or missing Palestinian kids? When you see news reports, do you see the kind of background stories on Palestinian kids that you do on the hostages? You see wailing parents carrying a body and that's about it.

People could choose to make posters for Palestinians who have been killed.

It’s telling to me that pro-Palestinian posters do not do that. Instead, they just rip down posters for the hostages.

Well, for one those being killed and starved in Gaza have more important things to worry about than sending photos of their dead to friends and family in the US to make posters.

Also, I’ve commented before on this board that my Muslim friends here are afraid of identifying as Muslim for fear of retaliation. So there is no way they are putting up a poster like that or any other support of Palestine publicly. Plus support of Palestinians has been twisted to mean someone must hate Jewish people and they don’t and don’t want to be associated with that.

Why are they afraid? A boy has been killed, his mother stabbed, at least two people fired from their jobs. Plus after 9/11 many Muslims were interviewed by the FBI.

Well it all starts with "othering" them through propaganda etc and for years now it has been very fashionable on elite US college campuses to be intensely against Israel.

I am seeing Muslims in the protests in NYC and on the college campuses. The protests are being organized by the Muslim groups. Are you saying you think others are also anti-Israel in large numbers? I am not seeing that.

Yep the most dangerous and tyrannical regimes take guns from citizens as act number 1. People who confiscate citizen guns want to kill you but don’t want to get shot.

People who are identifiably Muslim have been ripping down posters without their faces covered, so spare me the “they’re afraid of being identified” crap. They also have been participating in protests nonstop.

A Jewish synagogue president was killed. A Jewish senator was threatened with her life.

Jews have been beaten up regularly.

So stop acting as though Jews are safe.

Let’s be honest about who is saying these things - it is Muslims. There are a lot of Muslim taxi drivers and Uber delivery people. We have to be honest about where the antisemitism is coming from right now it’s coming from Muslims the same as in Europe. Steve Bannon was right. The antisemitic events happening in France and England right now are all from Muslim refugees or immigrants. It’s true. I’m not Jewish but I see the news I see who is protesting most of them are wearing hijabs.
