You should also be appalled at the blatant racism against Asian Americans on display in these postings as well.

If you ignore the blatant racism in both directions, what you're left with is a lot of folks talking very calmly about why and how the TJ admissions process and school can and must be improved - and not much else.

I don’t agree. Fcps has revised TJ admissions several times in the past to reduce Asian students and to increase black and Hispanic students. It looks like black and Hispanic students are not interested in applying.

Do you know what “racism“ means? Do you just keep repeating that with the hope that, if you repeat it often enough, the thread will be locked.

And it may be, but that won’t stop the overdue reforms to which the state Department of Education, Scott Brabrand, and members of the General Assembly have now committed.

Talk about racism...SMH.

Yes I do. I have been a victim of racism as an Asian American and practiced law for 19 years.

That's....not a retort and only partially true. They are less interested in applying because of the toxic racism at the school. And again, not just by Asians.

I have yet to see solid evidence of toxic racism against black and Hispanics students at TJ by Asian students or otherwise. Just keep repeating it doesn’t make it so.

If you all invested this much energy into getting policy makers to do things like paid parental leave, a higher minimum wage, and universal preschool, we wouldn’t be having this conversation. Just saying.

That's fine - you haven't heard the various accounts that have been delivered on plenty of Facebook pages, School Board meetings, whatever. Talk to any Black kid at TJ. What do you want, a video? Grow up.

I guess special education doesn't matter. Yes, for the highly intelligent this is special education...

Uh, yeah. Go look at the TJ Vents Facebook page and you will literally see TJ kids complaining about their classmates from underrepresented groups getting preferential treatment in TJ admissions, college admissions, internships, and a ton of other things. It's an anonymous forum, so they feel okay to post it. Kind of like a lot of people here.

Yet so little empathy for those who are less advantaged? So much for paying it forward.

I think URMs do receive preferential treatment in TJ admissions, college admissions and internships. That is true.

At the expense of Asian Americans I would add. That is the basis for the resentment.

"Federal officials are investigating allegations of discrimination against Asian American students in a suburban school system in Maryland where parents have complained that race was unlawfully used as a factor in magnet program admissions.

The Education Department’s Office for Civil Rights notified families it had taken up the case in March, months after a spate of complaints was filed against Montgomery County school officials."

"The Justice Department declared Thursday that a two-year investigation of Yale University’s admissions has found that the Ivy League school illegally discriminates against White and Asian American applicants in the highly competitive process of choosing an undergraduate class.

The department said it had concluded that the university gave too much weight to race in reviewing applications, in violation of federal civil rights law. “There is no such thing as a nice form of race discrimination,” Eric Dreiband, assistant attorney general for civil rights, said in a statement."
