The lawsuit against Royal Caribbean/toddler death

I never would have looked.

A decade ago, a coworker caught his hand in a press. All of my coworkers took a look. I called 911 and kept my eyes covered. I did not need that in my head.

This reminds me of some interviews I've watched about 9/11 and the people that jumped from the towers. I remember one man specifically saying that he had to watch--that he felt like the people in the towers who were about to jump needed to know someone was "with them" in their time of need.

He refused a BAC.

Why hasn't there been more information about this? Does Royal Carribean have footage of him drinking?

I don’t think it’s been officially reported either way. At least not that I’ve seen.

Where has it been reported that he refused a BAC? I thought that alcohol/drugs had been ruled out but apparently not...?

You can see on the video that he wasn't stumbling around completely blotto - he moved with purpose. I don't think this happened because he was impaired. You don't drop a baby out of an 11 story window just because you had a few drinks or whatever. What he did makes absolutely no sense.

This has been said in these threads over and over again but not actually reported anywhere. Who knows why...

Just bumping this thread up to the top since it is the most recent thread on this topic.

It looked like a long way down for a toddler and on the hard concrete. Those nearby will never be able to escape what they saw either.

Apparently the ship stayed docked longer than planned for the investigation, but did set sail later that evening and continued with the cruise as planned.
I can't imagine!
How could the other passengers just go enjoy themselves on the rest of the trip, knowing what just happened? I'm sure EVERYONE's trip was ruined.

I took a cruise in the mid-2000s and a passenger from another ship docked at the same time as us, but from a different cruise line and headed to different ports, killed herself by jumping off a balcony. The other cruise set sail more or less on time and nobody heard about it until after we were back in port a week later. So I’m sure most people on the cruise had no idea.

I can’t watch the video. Nope.

We took a vacation on the Freedom of the seas and a passenger was air lifted off the ship by helicopter. No information whatsoever. Just all’s well. Don’t worry about the helicopter. I doubt people on the cruise were informed of the Chloe accident. They probably found out later.

They did and there was talk no doubt but many passengers never heard about it until afterwards.

There were at least a couple dozen people in the video that were in near proximity when it happened and many can be seen walking over towards the grandfather. Obviously they knew, and told their family members/others in their travel party.

Also from what I understand the ship didn't leave port until many hours after the scheduled time. Surely passengers who didn't actually witness the event/hear what happened asked why?

^^ there are 3,400 people on that ship. Some people saw and talked. Others just heard something happened— it was 4:30 people were setting in. RC would never announce anything. I’m just saying it’s a huge ship and people don’t talk to each other that much. Certainly would be awful to see. But there are also people who won’t talk. If you look at the video half the people don’t even notice.

I have a picture of my DH walking on the cement below from the 11 deck. He’s the size of an ant. It’s 11 stories up. Half the people probably didn’t see anything.

Just thinking of that tiny body is making me sad.

The passengers may have heard what happened but only a small number of them actually saw anything.

When you are so far removed from a situation (don't know the people involved/didn't witness anything/don't know the details) I'm sure you would feel bad for the family involved just as you feel bad when you hear about a sad news story on t.v. but I doubt it would ruin your vacation.

Our cruise took a slight detour for a medical evacuation (stopped at an island not on itinerary on one of our sea days) and we were never told anything. Just “we are stopping at this island for a medical evac. We will be on time to our next stop.”

Obviously he held her out the window to experience the view and just accidentally dropped her. He's guilty of idiocy that caused the accident and then apparently lying about it.

Obviously, what’s your point?

I know. I have a child almost the same age and his body is just so little and dependent on me for protection. It’s too much to think of poor little Chloe’s final moments. Sweet baby.
