My guess is her family goes to "rescue" her at the cabin, she and Marc have made up, she pushes her family away. At some point months/years later Marc threatens suicide if Kate doesn't do what he want, she doesn't do it, and he goes through with the suicide. This is why Kate cannot stand up for what she wants/needs/deserves in a relationship.

Of course a 3 month relationship (or far less) could impact a person for the rest of their life- especially if it is intense as what is portrayed with Kate and the abusive boyfriend.

+1
The previews show him locking her out of the cabin - after dumping her on the side of the road. My guess is Rebecca and the boys show up, take a piece out of Mark (either literally or figuratively) and bring Kate back home. Pretty sure that will be the end of their relationship. I can’t stand Mark.

I’m going to get flamed here, but I have to say this. A part of me was hoping that Rebecca was going to sit Kate down and tell her she has to have gastric bypass surgery. I mean, come on. She has a child to take care of and she was even admitting she didn’t know if she’d be able to teach Jack to ride a bike, swim, etc. Not to mention the health issues that go along with carrying that much weight. It’s time for her to take care of herself, and she’s beyond losing weight through diet and exercise alone. I think it would have been a loving thing for Rebecca to level with her rather than constantly dancing around the subject.

If Kate is anything like my adult daughter (who is at least 100 pounds overweight), however Rebecca said it would NOT have been perceived as loving, but critical.

I don’t necessarily mean that Kate would have taken it well, but I think it’s something that needs to be said. In retrospect, perhaps Kate would have realized that Rebecca said it because of her deep love and concern for her well-being - and that of her grandchild.

I thought it was wrong for Kate to cut Tody out of the wknd and invite Rebecca. Toby hadn't refused to go. Kate blocked him from trying. Sometimes you go to something with an attitude or reluctance and get surprised at how good it is. Toby needed to be at the program, but was sidelined unilaterally by Kste.

I agree that Toby should have gone, but he clearly didn’t want to. Kate gave him an out by accepting Rebecca’s offer to join her. She didn’t “block” Toby at all. He was relieved. And it gave him some time to realize that he needs to step up.

Are Kate and Toby rich? Kate decides on a whim to fly across the country to spend a weekend in a cabin with her brothers? And she must buy two seats on a plane each time.

I think mark rapes her. That would explain her emotional trauma and eating disorder.

This is what I think.

Yeah, I love this show, but this scene was one of the many where I think just a little editing would make it better. Maybe this is realistic, though … everyone slightly miscommunicates, and things get worse. I thought he should have gone, too, or if he wasn't going to go, should have been more of an ass about it so we could officially hate him.

I like the show so much better now that we are back to the big 3 instead of Nicky and that tortured vet.

PP here. I felt like this scene (where Kate gives Toby's spot to Rebecca) is going to keep me from thinking Toby is at fault and Kate is innocent, should their marriage blow up. Even if Toby had his misgivings about going, he said he WANTED to love Jack or be a good dad. That's a big thing. Wanting to IS the first step. When Kate threw him off the bus b/c he wasn't eager enough, she kept him back. Maybe she secretly likes being the "good parent" and likes to keep him in the role of "bad parent." Some people get an ego boost out of looking like a martyr -- especially with special needs or sickly kids.

I wondered about Kate and Toby being rich too (for the last minute flight) etc. but then thought Kevin can just buy their tickets.

I really liked the time capsule thing-it was moving to hear Jack on tape and the fast forward to the beautiful new house!

At a minimum, you would have been seen as someone who doesn't understand the risks of and lack of statistically significant long-term benefits of weight-loss surgery. (I get that her fatness bothers you, but WLS isn't likely to be an answer)

np, omg YESSSSSSS!!!!!!!! Haha and I was the one saying I was kind of glad to have a break from adult Kevin. Older adult Kevin could start his own show ; )

I liked this episode.
But I felt dumb realizing duh, she could just break a window (after the preview from last week).
