I think the Marc-Kate relationships will last a while. I think they're setting up to be something that had a huge impact on Kate's life, and a 3 month relationship wouldn't have done that. My guess is her family goes to "rescue" her at the cabin, she and Marc have made up, she pushes her family away. At some point months/years later Marc threatens suicide if Kate doesn't do what he want, she doesn't do it, and he goes through with the suicide. This is why Kate cannot stand up for what she wants/needs/deserves in a relationship.
Of course a 3 month relationship (or far less) could impact a person for the rest of their life- especially if it is intense as what is portrayed with Kate and the abusive boyfriend.
+1 The previews show him locking her out of the cabin - after dumping her on the side of the road. My guess is Rebecca and the boys show up, take a piece out of Mark (either literally or figuratively) and bring Kate back home. Pretty sure that will be the end of their relationship. I can’t stand Mark. I’m going to get flamed here, but I have to say this. A part of me was hoping that Rebecca was going to sit Kate down and tell her she has to have gastric bypass surgery. I mean, come on. She has a child to take care of and she was even admitting she didn’t know if she’d be able to teach Jack to ride a bike, swim, etc. Not to mention the health issues that go along with carrying that much weight. It’s time for her to take care of herself, and she’s beyond losing weight through diet and exercise alone. I think it would have been a loving thing for Rebecca to level with her rather than constantly dancing around the subject.
If Kate is anything like my adult daughter (who is at least 100 pounds overweight), however Rebecca said it would NOT have been perceived as loving, but critical.
I don’t necessarily mean that Kate would have taken it well, but I think it’s something that needs to be said. In retrospect, perhaps Kate would have realized that Rebecca said it because of her deep love and concern for her well-being - and that of her grandchild.
