Less than 90% of committed capacity remaining. 1 in 10 Russian units destroyed or otherwise taken out of commission. Decimation - from Latin 'decimatus' - the Roman practice of punishment by killing one in ten.

As discussed above, they had a better army than it appears Russia is.

Correction to pp - Iraq had a better army than Ukraine and Russia.

It is like we are watching Blue jello wrestle a paraplegic. Ukraine had no intention of fighting, but was better prepared than 2014.

Ukraine does not have the cash for big weapon systems and obviously like 50% of Russias budget was embezzled.

Russia struggled to innovate a few domestic high-tech weapons (Like the T-90 tank), and get their military to adopt them.

But the budgets to actually produce and field these modern weapons in any meaningful amount, were all stolen by the Oligarchs, and the $$ converted into Super-yachts and London penthouses.

Hence, the majority of their army is armed with weapons left over from before 1989.

Is th T90 just the upgraded t70?

That is the same tank from 1969 with new firecontrol and a couple other things.

I remember the new-new tank that was supposed to be like an M1A1. They built like 5, brought them out for a parade and some broke down and it took days to find a way to tow them off a main street in Moscow.

We should have known back then they were a joke of a military.

Some senator said they are like the Vermont national guard with nukes. Seems about right.

Did Chechnya run out of assholes already?

Chechens who are battle-tested are dead or in Ukraine to fight Russia.

The Syrians they are sending are experienced killers.

This won’t end well at all. There are already calls on wahhabi chats to go fight in Ukraine to capture beautiful women. It’s amazing how undersexed this population is.

No. They can call all they want, people from the Middle East are NOT going to travel in great numbers to the north and the cold, to fight for a country they have no allegiance to. For the very few that do, they are fighting for money, not country, and that never produces particularly enthusiastic fighters. Also, and not to inject race into this, but if it comes to close combat, they'll be given short thrift indeed, because they will look different.

I am not worried about foreign mercenaries Russia scrounges from somewhere. I am worried about what Russia's incompetent and brutal war tactics does to civilians: indiscriminate bombardment and use of banned weapons will kill everyone on the ground. Mariupol is a death trap. People are dying of dehydration, cold exposure, lack of meds and untreated wounds. All of Ukraine's largest cities have the potential to be the next Mariupol.

And if Ukraine manages to push back the invaders, with unlimited weaponry from the West, then we need to fear that nuclear power plants in the hands of Russians will be sabotaged to leak across Ukraine and the West, as a parting scorched earth gesture from Putin.

In this context, a handful of fighters from the Middle East is negligible.

Negligible like half a million dead Iraqis who weren’t targeted but ended up dead regardless, go figure.

Completely pointless remark.

There are no credible reports that any significant number of middle east mercenaries will fight in this conflict.

I think PP's point is that 500,000 Iraqi citizens lost their lives after the US invaded and in the decade that followed- not referencing mercenaries sent by Russia to Ukraine to fight/die

I also think its more like 1-2 million Iraqis died as a direct result of the destabilization of their country starting with March 2003 US invasion

Maybe when Lorenchencko and Putin BOTH lose, the people of each country will finally get the parliamentary system they wanted, albeit the VERY hard way

I just don't think the world can be rolled back to 1950- too interconnected, a mass of tech savvy young generation and though its not a squeeky clean force of good, the hand of self interest for those Russians making a killing in the interconnected world, has been Bitten HARD by Putin.

He over stepped and under- estimated

And.... this is just what China was playing this Game to get.

Russia is, if look look at its land mass, more of an Asian country than a European one. The far western corner of Russia ( Moscow to the St Pete border ) is European culturally. The rest is Asian, Tartars, Kazachs, and its long under belly straddles the central asian Republics.

China needs a bread basket and a petro source for its growing economy.

They are about to OWN Russia and Putin is handing his nation over to them. Why ? Because he lost his job in his 30's and was forced to work part time as a Taxi driver....and ever since has been determined to get back the USSR

frying pan to FIRE in trying to prevent Nato for Ukraine

Putin is also trying to swing an oil deal with India, now that the US and the EU have cut off his petroleum income-stream.

He did convince Iran to shoot themselves in the foot though.

But this is the likely end game. Russia gets owned by China and India gets surrounded (Sri Lanka is also going to get owned by China).

That actually sounds pretty insulting to the Vermont National Guard, which I’m sure can do better maintenance and isn’t selling of rations and gas corruptly.

China passes that broken down 1950’s country about a decade ago. This just shows how far the Russians have fallen. The Russians use to supply the Chinese with arms…now they are begging the Chinese to give them arms, logistical support, ammo, etc The Russians are running out of missiles, drones, everything.

The Chinese are just as vile and contemptible as the Russians. Have your forgotten Uighur concentration camps in East Turkestan?
After Putin falls I hope Pooh Bear and the communists are next to be swept into the trash can!

I think it is literally impossible for Ukraine or Russia to run out of 7.62 ammo (for AK-47).
They literally may have billions of rounds each.

I think it is more of a food issue; maybe drones. Putin has got to be annoyed at how bad his military actually is.
