If you saw a broken down car would you blame the car or would you blame the people who should have been caring for and maintaining the structural integrity of the car. Pointing out problems I think is meant to fix the car. We can't all pretend that the car is running when it won't even start.

Teachers aren’t cars. Cars are inanimate objects who have to rely on their owners to take care of them.

Teachers are capable of working both within MCPS and without to effect necessary reforms. I and coworkers are active in the fight to improve working conditions for staff and the learning opportunities for students. We are deeply engaged in that work during our duty day and outside of it. I attended two board meetings in the past couple weeks and actively advocated. Did you? I wrote six letters to elected officials this month. Did you? Teachers (and former MCPS teachers) who chose instead to make anonymous complaints in the internet are not bringing about any changes. They are acting like cars that can not act on their own behalf.

I've helped to remove two principals, a supervisor & another very high-ranking CESC leader. It hasn't made a difference. The system is far too broken. It needs to implode, and I'm getting out before it dies. Screw retirement.

Ah, you are that poster. Please understand that the vast majority of MCPS families have no alternatives to their local public school and their children’s future depends on the system not imploding. Thousands of teachers are working hard every day to prevent the implosion you welcome. Retire now and make room for someone who isn’t eager to press the red button.

You are all fooling yourself. You have no clue what's going on.

Systems cannot retain teachers. I can retire but I can guarantee three more will replace me in 10 years.

Ignorance is bliss, I suppose.

I don't think implosion is needed. But ignoring systematic problems will do more harm than good. If these problems are systematic then the system will implode itself. If they are systematic you would see data and evidence to back up the claim. Well the shortage in education among many many other data points point to the fact is systemic failure to the ideals of education and educators having the right time work without harrassment.

Ask someone to proofread this and then repost.

It looks like you don't like progressive ideas that help people. You like to start a conversation about typing on small cellphone device keyboards. Start a new thread about it. This is about demoralization. Thank you.

Heres one. It is of students bullying a teacher and filming it. The Sub does not report it. Why??? Probably because reporting will give you more problems then you started with. Why didn't she call security, more problems. Now do you understand the plight? The unions admit there is a big problem with students and admin bullying teacher. It is well documented and on the record. It is well documented (such as here) that admin don't want to address it. So when I hear this poster say blah blah blah you're not even tenured. I say f off you industry scab and you are a waste of space and you should quit and make room for passionate educators.

THat's a cinch compared to any private-sector job. Teachers are so lucky.

NP. Right. That's why MCPS currently has 168 unfilled teaching positions as of today, one week into the 2nd quarter. Because teachers are so lucky, and their job is a cinch. Such a cinch that they literally can't pay anyone to do it. Many of those jobs have been posted since the start of the year and there's no even marginally qualified applicants to fill them, 3 months later. So lucky!

A job being a great job does not mean there are limitless qualified applicants. MCPS is being picky and it’s a good thing because it is a long process to fire people who should not be in the classroom.

What is the progressive idea? Let the public school system that thousands of poor kids depend on implode? Complain in a rambling manner and post YouTube videos on DCUM?

What makes you think they’re being picky?

Seriously. They're not being picky. They've scraped through the bottom of the barrel and are underneath it at this point. I've seen some of the resumes our admin has gotten from HR.

I work in a private school in Montgomery County and know a lot of mcps teachers. I can't recall another time period-- and I've been at this a long time-- when so many of them wanted advice about getting a job in a private school. I feel bad about that and wish things were better for them where they are. There are not that many jobs in private schools, and often there's less money, and many feel stuck.

If you do a Google or YouTube search about educational bullies or teachers that quit due to a multitude of issues beyond their control it seems like the toxicity is clearly evident in the profession and beyond the teachers control.

In my experience there are many lackluster people who got in, got tenure, and feel threatened when good people try to do their job well. Toxic people will drive good people out as ideologies clash.

There are many you tube videos about the toxic profession, there are many organizations dealing with it, regular news stories as well etc. If you are an mcps pet that's great but the truth comes out in numbers because there are problems. Sorry if it hurts your feelings. The profession has the worst attrition ever. Trust me it's not a coincidence. I used to be a Democrat that agreed with unionization. I now realize that it is not really a union but just political pandering and waste fraud and abuse.

They are not being picky. They just ran out of people with the mass firings and mass exodus in education. Can you blame them???
