At 12-7 last year, Prep had its worst season in decades. Most schools wish they could say that. It's not as if the cupboard is bare or that Prep is an up and coming program trying to make a name for itself (like they were 20 years ago). I think it's safe to say in two years, they will appear in the national rankings. The question is how high up at the end of the season. |
The Heights has a few standout of players, with a strong coaching staff. They just don't have the ability to win the close games. To wit, consecutive one goal losses to Albans and Churchill. |
I agree. The problem is they do not have the depth as a smaller school to hang with the larger programs. Thus, the reason they lose close games. |
| Landon will be just as good next year too and the only local team with a strong chance of winnning a game this year or next is Bullis (this year). Landon's competition this year and next will be teams that are national powerhouses--top MIAA schools, Culver and the Hill among others. |
|
Landon could be even better next year, they start only 4 seniors.
They have have a ton of seniors on the roster but their 2018 class is very strong. |
| Yeah, Landon has only a missed a few years at the top nationally so I dont know why that obnoxious PP was going on about its "reign" being over. I posted the current UA ranking which, while preseason, is not the first ranking of the season as most of the teams have played some pre-season games. Regardless, PP is wrong, Landon is almost always near the top of the national rankings and I have been following local highschool lacrosse for more than a few years now. Again, I am not a Landon parent or alum but Im willing to admit that its a perennial lax powerhouse and that does NOT seem, to be changing any time soon. |
| The IAC is so far a dominant and impressive force this season. Landon and Bullis deserve top national rankings. Prep is making a good case for the same. Even the bottom half, EHS, SSSA, STa, are showing they are forces to be reckoned with. Success on the lacrosse fields yields dividends to the schools in countless ways, beyond mere pride and bragging rights. The WCAC needs to tap into whatever recipe for success these IAC teams have come up with, or their glory days will be forever behind them. |
"Countless ways"?

| Both Bullis & Landon have struggled to raise funds for their endowments. Neither is a well endowed institution or do they have momentum of late in that area. Landon has raided the endowment in recent decade to underwrite CAPEX, financial aid and operations shortcomings. That is one thing to count & it isn't favorable to either school. Sports success can help. It immensely helps some colleges. Prep schools, not so much. It'd be a better strategy to trap a following in the arts or sell STEM facilities & resources hard. |
| what the hell are you talking about. Landon recently raised $55M in a capital campaign and a good portion of it went towards the endowment. |
Ehhh. The risk you take by extrapolating an entire season from a few early wins. DJO has not won since those first two wins. I'm guessing the new coach may already be getting a talking to. And maybe Gib needs to finally ride off into the sunset. |
| 1-7? What's going on with Ireton? |
|
O'Connell has never had much talent at all.
It takes 4 years to build a program. |
And they will. PVI is moving, VLC kids need a school this side of the bridge, many boys want a coed school, Gonzaga and Prep have a reputation for being liberal and elitist. |
And Landon stole their goalie and they had to train somebody who never played goalie. |
