They ARE focused on core issues, FFS. American voters - a majority - favor issues like infrastructure, education, paid leave, higher taxes for the uber rich, lower drug prices. And that’s across party lines. There is increasing concern about climate change. And yet, we have two senators and a completely obstructionist GOP that want to derail these very core issues that are not only broadly popular but also affect so many if not all Americans in some way, shape, or form.

THIS.

And to answer the other PP’s pitiful “why can’t they scrape together the votes?”: the GOP isn’t interested in governing, but especially not when it might give the Democrats a win. Why can’t any of the allegedly “moderate” Republicans come together on this? They see the same polls, how popular this is. They’re just being obstructionists because they’re buttholes.

If they removed paid leave and CTC it would pass (and it would drop below Manchin's monetary cutoff.)

Moderate dem here. I would support this. Having the CTC and the subdizided childcare is double-dipping.

The progressives however would do it when the world freezes over and that is why this bill will fail.

Proving that Manchin and Sinema are kindergartners in a sea of Democrats who want to make progress.

Or the only ones willing to stand up and save our economy.

WTF do you think the bills are for?!

No, it’s on Manchin and Sinema. This was the version he approved, remember? Now he suddenly doesn’t approve? You know what that is? That’s a faithless negotiator.

The social welfare bill? More taxes and inflation at a time we least need it.

Oh, you’re a billionaire now?

You spelled “tax cuts” wrong: “Provides 39 million households up to $3,600 (or $300 per month) in tax cuts per child by extending the American Rescue Plan’s expanded Child Tax Credit.”

You spelled “tax cuts” and “addresses climate crisis” wrong: “Delivers substantial consumer rebates and tax credits to reduce costs for middle class families shifting to clean energy and electrification.”

You spelled “American jobs” wrong: “Ensures clean energy technology – from wind turbine blades to solar panels to electric cars – will be built in the United States with American made steel and other materials, creating hundreds of thousands of good jobs here at home.”

Don’t worry, though. Manchin and Sinema were checking in with their boss. We know why you guys like these jerks so much.

+1. No one who is paying any attention could say with a straight face that all the progressives have to do is meet his demands and he’ll get on board. All that will happen is he’ll make new demands because he does not want BBB to come to a vote in any form whatsoever. He doesn’t want to negotiate, he wants to set someone else up to take the blame when it fails.

You get a tax credit for having a spawn AND you get a subsidy for care of your spawn?!?!?!?

That’s a double bonus.

No CTC at all, and child care subsidy must have a LOW cutoff. NOT $150k.

If this were true, why cant democrats scrape together enough senators to pass the bill? It is delusion that everyone wants this.

In the old days about a 30% of the republicans would join with 80% of the dems and pass the bill. Republicans are unable to think for themselves and do what they are told to do. It hurts the country but that does not matter as long as a few benefit.
