I think Randall is relying on the letter of the law, which doesn't make it right. He co-signed William's lease before he bought the building to meet the requirement. The Councilman has been harping on Randall being from Alpine, NJ because it's true. I do find it to be very shady myself.

I do not want future Beth and Randall to be divorced or estranged. That is all.

It's nice to see Kate upbeat and willing to take on finishing college. It's probably something that had turned into a thing for her - not finishing. Growth.

Kate and Toby have become much more likeable. Especially Toby who I used to find so hyper and annoying.

I’m annoyed by the fight between Beth and Randall. So stupid. You don’t pull out of a race after that enthusiastic response to his debate performance that day. That would be really crappy to do to the people who showed up for it, especially for such a selfish reason that you’re too far behind to win. It would be all kinds of wrong, and it doesn’t matter that Randall pledged to pull out if she withdrew her support. At a certain point, she’s obligated to stick it out.

And it’s not like all of a sudden there’s some family crisis or time crunch. Maybe Tess will require another conversation about her sexuality at some point. And Beth isn’t working, so she’s around for all three girls, even if seriously job hunting.

And it’s a city council seat, for crying out loud. He’s not trekking cross country for two years running for president.

It’s such a good show. I hate it when it’s stupid.

Deja wants to see her mom? Nicky’s alive? Ho hum) and annoyed (Beth’s so busy and things so complicated that she can’t let Randall just lose his campaign, he needs to quit tonight or it’s divorce? Hmmm, k). Who would have ever guessed that Kevin would become the hero of this series?

Agreed. The whole campaign plot line was unbelievable and boring from the start. And I really don’t care that Nicky is alive because he is an unlikeable character. The show seems to be losing its way and is more focused on plot twists than character development.

I hope the Nicky/Vietnam plot doesn't take over the show like Don Draper/Dick Whitman on Mad Men. The endless rehashing made the show nearly unwatcheable for me. Seems like they are angling for a relative of Jack who might have been or maybe is still alive, but they are dragging out way too many plot twists to get to the point.

The campaign is nothing more than a plot to knock Randall off his pedestal. We knew had flaws, but suddenly choosing to serve a community where his father lived over his family has sharply dimmed his shining star status. People do choose their jobs over their family at times and sometimes every time, but the campaign is making him seem like a detached ass. I don't want him to win the election, but something tells me he will like a scandal will come out about the current councilman or a health scare something so that he wins.

I totally agree! I used to cringe when Kate or Toby would be onscreen. But i loved seeing them cut the cake and see all those blue M&Ms. What a cool cake!

I keep thinking they did such a good job casting young Kate. Current Kate's face has a really similar look.

The Vietnam scenes are hard for me to follow but I usually do a bunch of other stuff while I watch the show.

I could not find anywhere that said you HAD to live there, but in the reams of paperwork needed to file your candidacy, you had to include a residential OR business address. I guess his apartment building ownership counts for that. Dumb storyline anyway.

For those that missed my PP about Randall being able to run for office.

I'm wondering if future Beth overlooking the dance class, is actually in the community center that got built because Randall actually won!

I think it’s so odd that Beth would be able to run a classical ballet rehearsal. Does she have any ballet training? It would be more likely that she was in charge of the building or program from a business/community perspective (like an executive director vs an artistic director). Of all dance disciplines,,Ballet requires the most training.

I thought this too. Have they ever said she has any dance background?

I agree with you about the Vietnam storyline. This is not what I’m watching this show for. I fast forward through all of it.

I am glad I am not the only one who FFs through the Vietnam scenes! I feel like I should be interested in it, but I just am not.

I think Randall and Beth are still married. If I were divorced I am certain that I would not be visiting my ex-MIL with my ex-DH.

“How does the bakery know what we’re having?” That made me laugh when Toby asked that.

I missed what Beth said at the end about Randall. When grown up Tess and old Randall are on their way somewhere, and Beth has someone come tell her they on on their way she says something. Does anyone know what it was?

It was something like "Bradford, PA" Definitely was PA -- as in Pennsylvania. The city was hard to make out.

It was Bradford. I checked the zip code - 16701
