MCPS delayed Thursday?

If every kid could be dropped off via a car right at the front door of their school, schools would not close. And if they offered valet parking for staff members so they don't have to walk from a parking spot to front doors of their school, schools would be open. These things are not possible as many students rely on school or county buses to get to and from school. And not all those bus stops were cleared, in fact, where there would normally be a bus stop those areas are now occupied by 5 ft high pile snow

I'm sorry, but are you really insisting that we should not open schools because staff members might encounter snow on their way from the parking lot? Or that buses can't pick up kids waiting near a stop that has some snow accumulation? What planet do you live on? Do you and your kids occupy a bubble where precipitation never occurs?

Ever heard of workman's comp? I've had a few MCPS coworkers who have fallen in the parking lot due to ice.

I hope they cancel. The busses won't start in the cold temp.

So you want your kids to stay home all winter?

PP here, no, but the conditions tomorrow are especially terrible.

Where are the pictures? The comments in posts from today don't have any of schools. At least, I don't see any. What post are you looking under there?

Right! Because the pictures aren’t there it just mean all schools are plowed

There are lots of pictures posted under the thread, "How are the schools near you looking?"

Scroll thru, there are lots of pictures, all from this afternoon/evening.

Thanks. Oddly I needed to sign in on a desktop browser to get that post to come up.

One interesting thing about that thread is that there are several pictures showing obviously-plowed lots where the poster is just upset there's still snow showing.

e.g., Greenwoods ES, Beverly Farms ES, College Gardens ES, Brooke Grove ES, Argyle MS, Clarksburg HS, Kennedy HS, Damascus HS are all cases where the poster was ostensibly claiming the school was bad, but then posted a picture of a plowed lot! Wacky.

Ones like Silver Creek MS were quite bad, but subsequent posts said they were cleared.

I don't think people know what plowed snow looks like. If you don't use salt, and we generally don't, there's going to be a layer of snow. That's what you're seeing in most cases. Don't let the color scare you. You can drive and walk on it.

Okay, well, I disagree. Most of those pictures of bus loops don't look safe for a bus to drive on, and I personally looked at Oakland Terrace's about an hour ago and it looks bad too.

Lol - DH and I walked by OTES around 6:15 this evening. The bus loop is clear and dry (and was entirely snow-covered yesterday). The parking lot is fine. The only thing not fine is the car drop-off loop.

All of it should be cleared. Yesterday it was a hot mess.

Yep. They prob wanted to call closed already but knew parents' reactions. They may be waiting until morning to decide whether to call Code Red or Code Orange latter being childcare in school buildings may be open.

If schools aren't open for child care providers, I'm bringing my kids to Carver. Or Taylor's house.

And then what? You can’t go inside. Even if you got in, you can’t leave them there and go to work. You’d just be inconveniencing yourself and subjecting your kids to the cold.

They yell/cry pretty loud. Someone will let them in if admin offices are open.

You won’t get further than the front lobby without an appointment. I work for MCPS and I can’t even use my ID to stroll into Carver to use the bathroom.

Once you’re in the lobby, what is your plan? Hopefully your kids are too young to be embarrassed when you are escorted out.

I'll come back for them after my doctor's appointment is over. Maybe. The'll have fun running around for a few hours.

At least it’s clear now that you’re just trolling.

We'll see. If schools don't open I don't currently have an other option. It isn't to line up child care for kids with special needs.

I call troll, but if not good luck with CPS after you pull this stupid stunt.

Taylor is ultimately to blame for the schools not being cleared. CPS will not care.

Praying for a snow day- we don't get much snow, and my kids want to sled

Taylor is doing his best. MCPS doesn't usually get this much snow.

Do you often make things up, hoping no one will know any better?

No, that's not an issue for the diesel engines in buses at 16F. That happens at colder temperatures. At 16F they should just run for 5 minutes before you drive them.

Remember last year when we had three days off due to incompetence?

This year there was a bit more snow, but the response was better (other than caving to the hysterics of MoCo).
