Of corse Diana was. I think both Kate and Diana are (were, respectively) social climbers.

Yes but then would you count Meghan and her mom as social climbers as well?

DP and I do think Meghan and her mom are strivers but I don't think Meghan is in the same category as Diana and Kate, both of whom I think married with the specific intent to marry into the royal family and become royals. Whereas I think Meghan is an opportunist who has always looked for ways to earn more money or gain more social status, whether through her acting career, her influencer website, or social media. I think Meghan genuinely fell for Harry and then looked for ways to make that work "synergistically" for her because that's how her brain works -- how does this play into my brand? how do I pivot my career to work with the BRF and this relationship? I don't think becoming a Princess was her ultimate goal, but she did seek to exploit it (and still does) to her benefit because I think she's always looking for more financial security and social leverage.

Whereas for Kate/Diana, the marriage and becoming Princess was the thing. In both cases because their families wanted/needed them to, but Kate was obviously much better prepared for the role and I think ultimately wanted the public-facing and responsibility side of it, whereas I think Diana just wanted the clothes and the parties, at least at first (eventually I do think she appreciated the way her position allowed her to help people she cared about, and overlooking her work with AIDS patients or land mine survivors shortchanges her, even if it's okay to acknowledge she was pretty shallow and not terribly intellectual most of her life).

Yes, but she had been seeking out British titled guys to date for a while. And she jumped at the chance to meet Harry and pursued him. She didn't have as realistic a plan and goal as Kate did but she wanted to marry a title, something that few American women really seek out in any way.

Who wouldn’t. When they were playing tennis, they both looked like they wanted a post court set of steamy sex.

That was my impression as well. Roger + Catherine would make a perfect couple while Billy takes a job as ball boy.

There’s a guy on YouTube saying he’s a British aristocrat who met Meghan. He keeps making long, drawn-out videos about it but never actually reveals anything. That’s probably the source.

ITA. She chased after (or waited for) that man for 10 years of her life.

Another in agreement. I don't think it's particularly dignified to take someone back after cheating and who makes it clear you're the backup. I guess she's dignified in putting up with humiliation but I don't find that particularly admirable.

DP. It’s not dignified and not what most people would want for their daughters. However, she really sacrificed a lot for her family or origin. If it weren’t for being royal adjacent her parents would’ve gone broke years ago and her siblings, especially her bummy brother, would not have been able to marry as well as he did.

+1 same for her sister. No way Pippa would’ve landed a billionaire.

Probably not, but I remember pre-wedding Carol Middleton sort of low key admiting she had groomed her daughters to marry well and expressing real shock that Kate was the one who was ascending into this position. To her, she thought Pippa was cuter and had a more lively, outgoing personality. Of course she is their mom and loves them, but the subtext read like, "I raised them the same but I never thought it would be the more homely, boring one who did this!"

Pippa has a great figure and seems to have a fun personality but looks very average. Carole probably hoped she’d land Harry LOL. Her husband is super rich, so looks like she did okay.

Pippas husband is much richer than Harry and seems decent. His father, Pippas FIL, is an alleged pedophile though

The pedo FIL is supposedly the reason that Kate and Pippa aren’t photographed together in public these days.

I doubt that’s the reason. Pippa was photographed with Kate and Meghan at Wimbledon after the allegations came out. It seems like they just aren’t as close as they used to be. Pure speculation but I wonder, based on how she talks about Kate’s kids, if perhaps Carole treats Kate’s children better or differently than she does Pippa’s and that leads to some tension between the two.

Meghan, yea. Her mom…why? She hasn’t really received any benefit from Meghan being royal and unlike the Middleton’s doesn’t have (had) the type of business that benefits from the association.

DP, I have seen this rumor posted on DCUM and nowhere else. At this point it seems pretty established that they became aware of each other via a mutual friend on Instagram and then were introduced by said friend (Violet von Westenholz, who knows Harry from their youth and met Meghan because she worked in PR for Ralph Lauren at the time) in London a short while later. There is zero evidence that Meghan was on the prowl for "British titled guys" and she has no known dating history in that set. She had few if any British friends and had not spent much time in the UK. She was also married until 2014.

+1, this is one of those allegations that feels transparently racist. I think a lot of people saw a black woman as the MIB at a royal wedding and felt she was way above her station, thus the idea that she's social climbing. But I bet you anything she would have preferred Meghan marry some American or Canadian actor/celeb and settle nearby in LA and not deal with all the BS they've been through in the last 7 years. I'm sure she likes Harry well enough and loves her grandkids, but it's not like Meghan was broke or struggling before Harry. She was on a successful TV show, making money, had a good and extensive group of friends.

I think in some ways Meghan got very unlucky in meeting Harry when she did, because she fell for him, they got married, and because of their age they immediately had kids, and now she's in the royal family in some capacity forever. I don't really think that's what Meghan's mom wanted for her, to be perfectly honest.

Meghan asked Harry’s childhood friend, Violet von Westenholz, to show Harry her Instagram picture. At the time Violet was repping Ralph Lauren and Meghan was in London to merch Ralph Lauren at Wimbledon. Meghan told Violet and other acquaintances from Soho House that she wanted to marry a rich Englishmen. It has been in theyr various interviews. Meghan was pushing 40 and the sex kitten roles dried up. She needed a 401K and some anchor babies before her biological click ran down

In my close in affluent area, this os not unusual fir women whose PR and media careers were based on looks and needed a retirement plan

Meghan just did it on a larger scale.

Why a rich Englishman vs. American or other nationality?

In that case, both brothers married actresses and social climbers. The only difference is that Kate has the style, pose, and personality of a British queen.

Definitely. It’s the perfect place for someone with no real skills or intellect. She sure is pretty, though.

She seems to have good social skills, needed for PR and non-profit work.

To be fair, so does Meghan Markle, only she complains and diverts focus to self more than a person in such roles should.

So then you mean she doesn't have good social skills

She has very good social skills but both husband and wife have this weakness to continually complain and blame their families.
