Yes that is part of it but they are also much wealthier and in charge of their own money, not getting an allowance from Charles.

Agree with this. I do think William was miserable stressed and angry about Harry but things have settled now. When he's calm and happy, things are much better for the family.

+1! Obviously they’re invested in the success of the monarchy but until they got that dutchy money, they had to perform to Charles’s expectations. Having control of their own money now has to be a nice change.

Kate also seemed to be afraid of the Queen and was stressed about doing her job right as a young and new royal.

I saw her visibly relax after the Queen’s death and it’s obvious she is very close to Charles and Camilla. She seems to have more power in the firm and is more experienced so is less stressed. William seems calmer too which I’m sure adds to her happiness.

I don't think anything substantial has changed there. No big lifestyle changes, and they seemed to get along with Charles just fine. I just think with distance from QEII's death and from Harry and Meghan, things are no longer fraught. Their increased public visibility has gone very well, which eases stress as well.

I agree that she's felt more freedom since the queen died, but I don't get the impression that she is close to Charles or Camilla at all. Where do you get this idea? I'm trying to think of ever having seen them interact in a warm way at all.

(which is not to say they aren't close, just I would have no idea based on their public appearances -- Kate is affectionate with William and her kids, and seems friendly with Sophie, Edward, Beatrice and Eugenie. But does not seem particularly close to Williams dad or step mom.)

+1. People keep bringing up the money but finances were never their issue. There are no reports of Charles denying them access to funds or holding it against them. Plus Charles and Kate and Camilla are said to have a cozy relationship.

Pp here. I don’t recall exact details right now but I have read in books about the royals that Charles has always been fond of Kate and it’s also apparent in their public exchanges ( not that it counts for that much). Also in Harry’s book Spare, Harry mentions that he told Meghan to do her hair like Kate’s and wear minimal makeup as his father likes how Kate presents herself.

I think now that public opinion is turning against Harry and Meg, she’s relaxed. They said horrible things about her. In a world where being considered hateful is the worst crime, her in-laws accused the family of racism. I would be on the heaviest of antidepressants to get through that. She was very popular and well-liked in HS. Being hated is new territory.

The money is nice, but they were never in danger of being cut off. Her wearing Zara, etc. is a PR move.


The kids being older is nice, but she has an exceptional nanny.

It was always about being hated. I can empathize. She sees Pippa living a similarly luxurious life without endless negative press. Any one of us would trade places, but she’s comparing her situation to her closest contacts, as is natural. We all do. How many dcumers say it’s hard to live on $100,000, $200,000, or whatever. We all compare ourselves to our peers!
