These guys will run into a house that's burning down, but won't take a vaccine? Ok.
Also, virtually none of them will actually quit (and yes, that's a risk the city should be happy to take). |
Why are so many nurses and nursing home workers unvaccinated? They are at the front lines and seeing all this, and still they don't want the vaccine? |
Most don't live anywhere near DC. My cousin is a retired firefighter. He lives in Stafford, VA. His colleagues lived in W. Virginia, Fredricksburg, etc. They do 3 day shifts so it's easy to live really far. |
+1...it is part of the housing affordability issue. The royal 'we" really need to do something that ensures our first responders, teachers etc can live in DC proper. |
Their shifts are 24-hours, not 72. |
A surprisingly high percentage of nurses are into woo and alternative medicine. There are nurses in my family, and they are always talking about this stuff. At work, they provide the standard of care, but they are not themselves scientists, and many don't have four-year degrees or advanced degrees. They might know a lot about how COVID presents and have experience treating people with COVID, but they don't necessarily know anything more about vaccines than anyone else. Nursing home staff are generally less-educated people who aren't making very much money (one reason it spread so badly in nursing homes is that many workers have to work at more than one home to make ends meet, so they were carrying it from home to home). |
What the royal "We" need to do is hire DC residents and require them to live here and subsidize their housing. |
| Most of them probably had Covid. I hope those who support them being fired will step up and replace them. |
Many of them live in houses just as expensive as homes in DC. But if you want 3000 sf instead of 1800, you want to have land and an ATV and go hunting and fishing and own a boat or an RV, and (for some of them) you want to be around mostly white folks or send your kids to what you see as better schools, you're not going to live in DC even if you got a 50% raise. DC can do more to recruit DC residents for these jobs and give them preference, and even require people who get jobs through these pathways to live in the city. But the unions, which are made up of folks who live far away, aren't going to be happy. |
This - it's cultural. They see cities as a necessary evil for a paycheck and then go run back to the country with their big city money. It's a total grift and if they quit, I will be happy. The white-dominated unions have shut A LOT of DC locals out of these jobs. -DC Taxpayer |
They are not a full nurse if they don’t have a 4 year degree. |
An RN is just a two-year degree. |
Firefighters are overpaid PUBLIC funded employees. Their unions fight to keep their pay hire and WMT pay low (who just happen to be more women and people of color). It’s an old boys club racket and I am hear for this. Same with Police. PUBLIC funds, my money, your money. Get the vaccine or find another line of work. |
