So why exactly are so many fire fighters refusing to be vaccinated? Is it because they're Republican?
In DC ?? No, not a chance.
Most don't live anywhere near DC. My cousin is a retired firefighter. He lives in Stafford, VA. His colleagues lived in W. Virginia, Fredricksburg, etc. They do 3 day shifts so it's easy to live really far.
+1...it is part of the housing affordability issue. The royal 'we" really need to do something that ensures our first responders, teachers etc can live in DC proper.
Many of them live in houses just as expensive as homes in DC. But if you want 3000 sf instead of 1800, you want to have land and an ATV and go hunting and fishing and own a boat or an RV, and (for some of them) you want to be around mostly white folks or send your kids to what you see as better schools, you're not going to live in DC even if you got a 50% raise. DC can do more to recruit DC residents for these jobs and give them preference, and even require people who get jobs through these pathways to live in the city. But the unions, which are made up of folks who live far away, aren't going to be happy.
This - it's cultural. They see cities as a necessary evil for a paycheck and then go run back to the country with their big city money. It's a total grift and if they quit, I will be happy. The white-dominated unions have shut A LOT of DC locals out of these jobs. -DC Taxpayer
