DCPS Double Down on Travel Policy

Oh, I won't be following this at all. In addition, after the myriad false positives and knock on effects that happened in our school, I won't be giving permission to test my kid.

We did too. But that can't be done for Thanksgiving and Christmas. This policy can't be maintained for another year. I'm fine with it for now but LaQuandra Nesbitt, DOH, and Bowser need to get off their asses and start thinking ahead. We're halfway through summer already.

The summer is one thing. Missing a third Thanksgiving or Christmas in a row is ridiculous, especially given that many people drive to NJ or NY. How is that really any different than you driving to southern VA? It isn’t. And not all activities or family events are planned in the summer. We have some milestone birthdays and weddings that have been put off for two years now. My kids are not going to miss those events after all we’ve asked them to give up these past two years. This policy is ridiculous.

This is currently affecting working parents with kids in daycare, preventing travel to visit family.

But it isn't NEW guidance. I have little empathy parents of DCPS/Charter kids with houses Maine they rented for the whole month of August.

No worries, we're not going to let it affect us. We're just going to show up on day one. Never fear.

Maine's vaccination rates are among the top 5 in the country and the state had a lower rate of COVID than DC throughout the entire pandemic. This is about you basking in moral superiority and turning COVID into a virtue signaling exercise, versus sound public health advice. This guidance may have been fine for Christmas 2020, but the facts have changed since then.

Struck a nerve with the Maine thing, huh?

Anyone who follows this rule is even dumber then the bureaucrats who issued it.

Personally I think they're just being lazy and not thinking things through because the only people practically impacted are elementary school children. It's just like the no notice Juneteenth school closing. The people in charge don't care because almost every other population can just ignore it because of prohibitions on asking about vaccination status.

So someone can take their kids to Kings Dominion, into a massive crowded lines and lots of unvaccinated people and it's fine because it's Virginia. But taking my kids to visit grandma in MA via car requires them to quarantine 10 days? NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.

It’s actually a villa in Tuscany. See you on Day 1!

It takes a special skill to be as moronic as the DC government routinely is.
