DCPS Double Down on Travel Policy

This is currently affecting working parents with kids in daycare, preventing travel to visit family.

But it isn't NEW guidance. I have little empathy parents of DCPS/Charter kids with houses Maine they rented for the whole month of August.

I mean, DCPS is comfortable having my kid around masked unvaccinated adults indoors (teachers/staff). I don't know why they'd care if those people were in a different place.

Translation: we are all selfish assholes.

Truthfully, hell me how this is selfish. Show me, with data, how following this policy is beneficial to public health.

I mean, make up a strawman about Maine homes to bash parents.

No worries, we're not going to let it affect us. We're just going to show up on day one. Never fear.

I know it's not new. I didn't mind the guidance when there were also quarantine rules that applied to everyone. I am annoyed now that bars and restaurants are open and there are tourist families coming to my neighborhood with unmasked kids making it more dangerous for me to take my kids into our local grocery store, etc.

It's great you have that flexibility. I have two weeks per year outside of holidays I can take for vacation and they are in August. My husand has to work one of them. My kids and I haven't seen my mom in 2 years. We are driving non stop and only seeing vaccinated adults. It sucks that my kids have I miss some school but they missed a whole year of it, so here we are.

Will there be a parent contract to sign? At my private, we had to sign and if rules were broken we know some who were kicked out. (Mid year last year)

LOL. Good luck kicking kids out of DCPS.

Will the one for this upcoming year include parent/student vaccinations?

Very, very good point.

I assume there will be a daily health check / app where parents will have to answer questions about whether they have traveled. Again, though, the issue is not whether there will be compliance with the policy - people will lie and because it's a bad policy, that is probably fine.

But some number of kids will have to quarantine and a week + is no joke ... will there be school available to them? Or will it just be like the before-times and if you're sick you're out of luck?

this is TOO MUCH for kids and families. Two years of restrictions and deprivations - any continuation needs a STRONG foundation in evidence and actual public health research. Not just the “precautionary principal.” I’m morally/ethically 100% fine with breaking this rule - and I am a rule follower. See you in court DCPS if you try to exclude my kid for visiting grandma.
