| Stated today in the council hearing, kids will have to quarantine 10 days after travel out of the DMV… wow. |
| They've changed the policy? Right now it is quarantine for 3-5 days and get a negative test. Now it's 10 days even with a negative test? |
This is what is currently in the OSSE guidelines updated June 25. |
|
Must now follow DC guidelines, 10 days.

What that the policy last year? Or something like it (maybe 14 days)? We didn't go anywhere so I never thought to check.
I wonder if it was ever enforced. |
| Good thing no one ever got COVID from inside the DMV! |
| Ward 4 enforced. Kids would talk and would get sent to the office to be picked up. Honesty is the best policy, saves your kids from embarrassment. |
| GOOD! Want to be selfish? Get a babysitter. |

p. 11 reflects the "doesn't matter if you are vaccinated, you quarantine for 10 days after travel outside DMV". BUT P. 21 suggests "Provided that they do not currently have any symptoms consistent with COVID-19, an individual who has tested positive for COVID-19 within the last 90 days or is fully vaccinated may be admitted while awaiting COVID-19 test results, after close contact with someone with confirmed COVID-19, when a household contact is awaiting COVID-19 test results, or after travel.1 and also: "A student, staff member, or essential visitor must stay home, or not be admitted, and must follow the applicable DC Health guidance for isolation or quarantine, if they: Have traveled domestically in the last 10 days to any place other than Maryland or Virginia, unless they did not attend school until tested for COVID-19 three to five days after returning to DC AND received a negative COVID-19 viral test" |
No wait my bad: P. 11 says you can test out after 3 days of returning. |
This even says 7 days if you test. 10 days is only if you don't test. |
This seems to be only for unvaccinated kids and can be reduced to 7 days if the kid tests negative after 3 days of returning. |
| These arbitrary rules are infuriating. I took my family to the Smithsonian this weekend. They weren’t enforcing the mask rules (tons of kids without), so we had partially maskless indoor contact with people from all over the country. Totally fine for my kids to return to school/camp the next Monday. But god forbid we drive to a cabin in WV for a long weekend. Totally risky quarantine time! |
Based on the fact that it is different based on vaccination status, I'd imagine that it will be extremely difficult to enforce for the over-12 kids. Since vaccines aren't mandatory and you aren't required to report vax status. Kids over 12 can just say they are vaxxed (as can teachers/staff). |
Well, congratulations to you and your over 12 kids? For the many of us whose kids are too young to be vaccinated, this is a nightmare especially in combination with the lack of a virtual school option (I am fully in favor of eliminating virtual school, but you can't do that and then also enforce quarantines). This demonstrates to me that DC still does not have a plan about how to really have a robust in-person school system in the fall (including likely excessive quarantining) and, of all things in the past 16 months, is the thing that will make me consider leaving the city. |
