schools aren't getting shut down because of travel.
They'll get shut down because of unvaccinated parents. |
They’re going to get shut down because of a combination of unvaccinated parents and reckless vaccinated parents who refuse to do the bare minimum to keep our kids safe in school. |
I don't actually think they'll be shut down at all. Sure there will be cases but I don't think they'll be closed. Unvaccinated parents run a far greater risk to transmission than travel (particularly if that travel is to visit unvaccinated people). But of course we like doing on DCUM is focusing our attentions on the smaller impacts, not the bigger impacts. |
Hell, this board hardly even gives a flip about school workforce vaccination. |
| Vax or test is coming for DCPS! |
Edit: VACCINATED people, not unvaccinated people |

Right, I understand this policy now. We have been traveling for one day. We have now been exposed to:
(1) tons of maskless people including maskless unvaccinated children at multiple rest stops (2) tons of maskless/unvaccinated people/children at the restaurant where we stopped for lunch (3) tons of maskless/unvaccinated people/children at our hotel Now we are going to go spend time with our extended families. Unmasked. Adults are vaccinated/kids are not. This is way more risk than we normally take in DC. |
And if you did that all in MD or VA it would be “safe.” |
Ok, but that's you. There's an enormous amount of overlap between the risk that families take in the DMV area and the risk that families take outside of it. Some families will take more risk on vacation, some will take fewer (like if they're going to a house by themselves somewhere), and your 'big risks' are some other family's everyday risks in DC. Leaving the area is a terrible proxy for risk. The purpose of this policy was just imposing on people who are vaccinated, not kids who are too young to be vaccinated, it just swept them up because no one bothered to make an exception. |
