13 Year Old Girl only 5 feet tall

Hopefully you don't make it sound like a disability to her.

I was an early bloomer, got my period right at 11, was about 4'11 at 13, and ended up being (just under) 5'1. My mom is 5'5 and my dad is 5'9, but his sisters are petite. It was hardly anything I ever had to "make the best of". The biggest hardship I endured was adjusting the driver's seats of various models of cars, often suffering through suboptimal comfort and visibility. Thankfully my short stature didn't stunt my earning power too much, and I could eventually afford cars that comfortably fit both me and my 6'3 husband.

Oh also hemmed jeans never looked good but petite denim has come a long way.

If she hasn’t started her period, she is probably still growing. And even when she does start menstruating, girls still grow an average of an inch or two after.

I also started my period at 12 1/2, but my 13 1/2 year old DD has yet to.

If she doesn't grow any further you can always try the rack.

Women like Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Jacinda Arden, Maggie Thatcher, Janet Yellen haven't let their height dictate their leadership ability or impact.

I have three daughters who will be lucky to crack 5 ft and I have no doubt they will all be leaders one day.

It's not how tall you are, it's the drive and motivation that matters.

I still had tons of friends, tons of boyfriends and my career has been just fine. I do need help with those high shelf items at the grocery store. Upside - no one expects me to do any heavy lifting, even if I'm secretly stronger than I look.

I did marry a super tall guy, though. It's not a big deal for girls to be short but it's tough on guys. I wanted to give my sons, if I had any, a shot at being taller. And, I have two boys. Looks like they'll be average height, which is great.

I’m your height but never wished to be taller and I too married a tall guy.

Why wouldn’t you want to be taller? Weird

I’m 5’1 and significantly shorter than my parents and siblings. Now there are plenty of places to buy petite clothing online. This was my only real frustration as a teen. Nothing else. We didn’t have online stores back then.

^and when I met DH I thought he was nice and tall at 5’8. He’s still a lot taller than me.

My 13 year old DD is 4’10”. She hasn’t gotten her period yet.

I'm 5'2 and my husband is 6'2. It has never held me back. I think you have nothing to worry about.

Please assure your DD that it's okay to be short. Like most things that are skin deep, this doesn't have a huge impact on your life, beyond minor annoyances like finding clothes that fit (but offset by the fact that even economy seat on airlines are just fine).

Why would you think an 11 y/o won't grow more?

Yeah, I have friends who are fully-grown adults who are 5'0" or even 4'11". It's called being short. It happens. What's your point?

Like, what are you going to do? Give her spinach and hope for the best?

Why is this an issue ?

There are no short supermodels, duh. Mom has some high expectations

Because she started her period 3 months ago? Because I did as well at 11, and was 5' 1", and didn't grow after that? Because my mom did at that age, and didn't grow after that? Because I'm the tallest woman on both DH and my side of the family? IF DD grows, it will be in the 1" ballpark, which would still land her in the 'really damn short' category.

Why would you want to be taller? I'd guess that, outside very short or very tall people, very few people actually think about their height at all unless asked to write it on a form.

I was 4'10" until I was 16! Over the next year and a half I went up to 5'6 where I have stayed. 13 is not really that old.
