13 Year Old Girl only 5 feet tall

My 18 yr old DD is 4'11. Your daughter will be fine.

My 14 year old daughter is 4'11 and probably not going to grow any more. We are making the best of it.

5'2" 50 something here, married to a 6'3" 50 something. Older daughter got her period at 11, 5'3 is now 18 and 5'6". Younger brother is 6 feet at age 16.

5'10" woman here. Your dd will be fine and will be much more popular than her taller friends.

My 11 year old is 4' 9", and unlikely to grow much more. My mom is 4' 8". I'm 5'1". We're just a short family, but it hasn't held any of us back in any way. Please assure your DD that it's okay to be short. Like most things that are skin deep, this doesn't have a huge impact on your life, beyond minor annoyances like finding clothes that fit (but offset by the fact that even economy seat on airlines are just fine).

I would not worry about it. 5 feet isn't a negative for women. Also, if it's any consolation, I was 5 ft tall when I started high school and I was 5'2-5'3" when I finished. My sister was even shorter when she started high school and she's taller than me now...she actually grew an inch or two as a freshman in college.

She's only 5 feet now, she's the shortest in her team, shortest of all the cousins the same age, the shortest girl her age in her neighborhood group, etc. She asks me about it all the time. I always tell her it's perfectly fine to be petite. I'm just hoping she gets to grow a few more inches.

Hi OP. As others have said, her height should not be a limiting factor for most positions in most sports. She and you may enjoy this story that Stanford soccer’s Kiki Pickett, who is also 5 ft tall, wrote about being drafted in the first round of the NWSL: https://www.kansascity.com/sports/article248898524.html
You can find video clips of her playing online, including from their National championship games. She’s an incredible player.

Sure, it is disappointing if your favorite sport favors tall people.

No one can fix this. Let her be upset and grow used to it.

DD was 5 feet at 13 (actually 4’11 and 7/8) and 5’1 at 15.

I wouldn't stress about this if she hasn't had her period yet. She most likely will grow at least two more inches. I had my period at 13, and grew an additional three inches. My daughter was 14 when she had hers, and likewise grew three inches taller in the following two years.

+1
I am actually pretty tall but I come from a pretty short family over all. Its not that odd to be in the low 5' range for lots of people. For every woman who is 5'9, one is also going to be 5'1.

There is no "better" FFS

my 12 year old is 5'8" and doesn't have her period so will grow atleast a few more inches. She's self conscious b/c being tall is all people point out.

If you are freaking out over her height, I wish you peace and calm in other aspects of your life.
