13 Year Old Girl only 5 feet tall

Be happy that she isn't outgrowing all her clothing and shoes all the time.
My kids are going to bankrupt me My 7 year old just hit 5' and has a size 8.5 women's shoe.

I'm glad to be short because I can ride ponies.

I hear you, OP. My almost-13 year old is still 4'11" or possibly 4'10". She got her period back in the fall and has short birth parents, so I think she's probably going to grow only a few more inches at most. Even though I'm not her biological mother, I'm also short, but she gets very frustrated with people thinking she's much younger than she really is due to her height. I tell her that she'll love it when she's a middle aged woman, but that's playing the long game too much with her.

Unlike my fellow shorties, I do wish I had a few more inches

When did you get your period?

+1 on the eye rolling. You’re from a family of shorties. Your husband is short. Your daughter will be short. You will all survive 🙄

That’s not short for a 13 year old. I’m surprised she’s shorter than all of her friends.

The main drawback to being a short woman is that when you start to gain weight it can be very hard to keep it off.

Yeah, at 12-13, I was 5'6", which felt freakishly tall for that age. Of course, I haven't grown an inch more since then, but I felt like a giant in late elementary school.

Husband was the opposite - did hit full height (over 6') until 18-19.

She's only 5 feet now, she's the shortest in her team, shortest of all the cousins the same age, the shortest girl her age in her neighborhood group, etc. She asks me about it all the time. I always tell her it's perfectly fine to be petite. I'm just hoping she gets to grow a few more inches.

I find it hard to believe she doesn’t know any kids her height or shorter. I have 12 and 14 y.o. DDs and they both have lots of friends that are under 5’.

I am 5’2 & have been since age 12.
I was a varsity athlete.
I have a family, an advanced degree & a successful career.
No one comments on my height.

Chill.

My DD is almost 14, 5’1”, and claims her friends are all taller than she is. I don’t see it, myself, although some certainly are. But she’s definitely developed, and wears a larger bra size than I ever did until after I had kids. She looks young, but definitely not like a little kid. Got her period at age 11, so I’m not sure how much more she’ll grow. I’m 5’7”, her dad is barely 5’10”.

Not until 15. I was late for everything!

My DD grew three inches after she got her period.

Which is about average - lots of girls grow 1-3 inches afterward.

For those of you who have girls whose ultimate height was under 5 feet (4'10-4'11) do you (or does she) wish you had done growth hormone treatments? We are needing to make that decision now with my daughter and only have a small window to decide. (I'm not OP). Doctors say she will not reach 5 feet without the treatments.
