13 Year Old Girl only 5 feet tall

Anonymous
I'm 5'6 my husband is 5'9. But my mom is 5'2 and my dad is my height. She just turned 13 last week and had her checkup this morning. The doctor said she is beginning tanner stage 3. Does that mean there is potential for more growth, the information on the internet is so confusing. Some sites say that some girls get their period in tanner stage 2 and then they only grow about one more inch after. She hasn't had her period yet, although I had mine at 12.5. My mom took her to her appointment so I didn't get to ask the questions

I’m five ft, one inch. It will be okay. She will be able to live a productive life and contribute to society. 🙄

I don't know why you're posting, exactly. What are you going to do with whatever answers to your question you receive? She'll be the height she is.

Well, there isn't anything wrong with her. Nothing you can do. People are all different heights, some short, some tall.

I am 5’2” and it has never been an issue for me (mid 40s now) other than sometimes having to shop at the petites section. How is her height an issue unless her dream is to be a model or a basketball player?

It may be concerning if she were a boy because of societal standards with regard to short men but she’s not so I don’t even get the concern.

She is a teen. She will be growing assuming she gets the nutrients she needs and get enough sunshine and outdoor time. Teen years is critical since it sets the standard of how your body is developed.

Does it bother you she is only 5'2 right now? Other girls are taller than her? Don't worry comparing her to other girls.

My mom is 5'0 and my dad was 5'9. I'm the shortest in my family at 5'2. My 5 siblings are all between 5'6 -5'9. We didn't have the best nutrients growing up poor but we were outside alot. We were born in another country.

Girls don't get socially punished for being short the way boys do. Society still rewards women for being small and non-threatening.

But also, she could easily grow several more inches in the next couple years. It happens to plenty of people.

She'll be fine either way except for having to deal with a mother who worries about stuff like this for the rest of her life. That's always a challenge.

I'm 5' tall. Do I wish I was taller? Sure. But it hasn't slowed me down any. Sometimes you're handed the short end of the stick (pun intended). Such is life.

I still had tons of friends, tons of boyfriends and my career has been just fine. I do need help with those high shelf items at the grocery store. Upside - no one expects me to do any heavy lifting, even if I'm secretly stronger than I look.

I did marry a super tall guy, though. It's not a big deal for girls to be short but it's tough on guys. I wanted to give my sons, if I had any, a shot at being taller. And, I have two boys. Looks like they'll be average height, which is great.

She's self-conscious about her height, maybe because she just happens to have tall friends. She's also feeling it in the field now, she just can't run as fast as her taller teammates. She's only 5 feet now, she's the shortest in her team, shortest of all the cousins the same age, the shortest girl her age in her neighborhood group, etc. She asks me about it all the time. I always tell her it's perfectly fine to be petite. I'm just hoping she gets to grow a few more inches.

I stopped growing around 15. Most women I know stopped in their mud-teens.

It’s likely she’s going to grow a couple more inches but not a lot more. She’s going to be short, get used to it. There’s a lot of short women out there and it has zero impact on their lives.

That's probably how tall I was at 13. I eeked out another 2ish inches before I stopped growing. So yep, I'm a little short (and the shortest in my entire extended family), but I find I'm quite average when out and about in the world. I even found myself a 5'6" husband!

That's not that short. My daughter sprouted at 14. They all grow at different rates!

Don't be an asshole, PP.

I'm 5'0 and adore being short. Your husband is 5'9 and your dad is 5'6. Clearly you have short genes. Her height is in range and wouldn't be a medical issue. I bet she'll grow an inch, but that's okay if she doesn't.

I have TONS of short friends. 5'0 isn't unusual for a girl. I never had trouble dating either. Lots of actresses and role models are petite too. I've been one of the shortest kids my entire life and always internalized it and loved it- I was front and center for every school play.
