13 Year Old Girl only 5 feet tall

5' is totally normal. No one takes issue with it. If she is hetero, men prefer shorter women and its socially acceptable to date someone much shorter. Expands the dating pool exponentially. Take it from a 5'10 woman.

Please assure your DD that it's okay to be short. Like most things that are skin deep, this doesn't have a huge impact on your life, beyond minor annoyances like finding clothes that fit (but offset by the fact that even economy seat on airlines are just fine).

pro: a bit more room on the seat
con: those seats are uncomfortable because our heads don't hit the headrest. I wad up my sweater and put behind me, plus my legs dangle, like a kid LOL I just rest it on my carryon.

pro: can shop in kids section for certain things like socks, which is much cheaper. I bought a nice ski pants in the youth section for half the price of a woman's ski pants
con: harder to find nicer off the rack clothing for petites. A lot of them seem to be made for middle aged/elderly women

My 12.5 yr old DD is 4'9. Hasn't hit her period yet. She wears a woman size 5.5 to 6 shoe size, so I'm thinking she has more growing to do.

Both DH and I were late bloomers. DH is 6'2.

We are needing to make that decision now with my daughter and only have a small window to decide. (I'm not OP). Doctors say she will not reach 5 feet without the treatments.

I don’t know if DD is done growing but if she’s 5 feet, she’s barely that, and had got her period almost a year ago. We never considered growth hormones. She’s taller than some of the adults on my side. Quite a few are 4’10

Boy or girl?

girl

Thank you! My teeny tiny basketball player love this fact. She's 12 and 4'11. Parents are both tall, as are her younger and older siblings. We keep telling her that she will pull it out in the end!

There is no "better" FFS

Who are these people who say better in this context?

I’m fairly certain that several years that there was a study that measured men and women’’s likelihood of being partnered with comparison to height. Men 6 ft and over were more likely to be partnered and for women it was 5, 3 or 5, 4. I can’t remember exactly. Didn’t seem very earth shattering at the time I read it.

Got my period at 12.5. Was 5'3" at 16yo. Ended up at 5'5" by the end of my senior year.

Point being the Tanner Scale is not perfect.

OP, you are the anomaly in your family. Everyone else you listed in your family is shorter than average, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that your daughter might be shorter than average as well.

It’s likely she’s going to grow a couple more inches but not a lot more. She’s going to be short, get used to it. There’s a lot of short women out there and it has zero impact on their lives.

I stopped growing at 13.

I was 5'1 at 13 and grew to 5'9. Although didn't start my period until a week before I turned 16.
