I am a woman with an enormous gut. I hate it and am ashamed.

I am very prone to belly fat - I first read the book Why we are fat, then I read the obesity code, and it all made sense - I decided to go keto and my mid section has shrunk dramatically -another friend picked intermittent fasting - and a third picked both - I've known these friends for 20 years and we all look better than we have in twenty years.

I would prescribe a diet of air and water.

To lose 20 lbs, I ate only fruit after dinner (if hungry) instead of anything else, I also stopped putting dressing on salads, and I was careful about what I ordered at restaurants. I also exercised and I was more mindful about what I ate.

I’m in my 40s. It took maybe a year to lose the weight. I also weighed myself once a week and wrote it down and wrote down exercise. This is helpful to keep you motivated.

I posted above. I found that I had to lose weight overall in order to lose the belly. It wasn’t possible for me to only lose weight in my belly.

Note that you’re not “spot reducing” or “burning belly fat,” as those aren’t actual things. You’re just developing the muscles so that they can better reduce the jiggle.

Build more activity into your life. Be mindful about what you eat. There’s no magic solution.

Veggies cause bloating for some people. I can’t eat veg or beans without blowing up like a balloon. Meat, fish and dairy don’t have the same effects on me.
OP, you have to find the right diet for you.

Not true. It may help lose overall weight, but if you are genetically too heavy, nothing you eat or don’t eat changes that

Yes true.

I am an apple and I was holding about 10-15 pounds in my gut alone and I lost it by cutting out gluten, dairy and sugar. I actually have a flat belly and a waist now and I am fifty.

Try it OP. You can come back and brag in six weeks.

You still are top heavy relative to the rest of your body. An apple will never be a pear

I'm glad of that. Easier to reduce a gut than thick hips/thighs.

Fellow apple and COMPLETE disagree. A big booty is something you can have but still be "in shape", sexy, hot.etc and not be considered fat. There is no wiggle room to have a belly and be considered anything other than fat/chubby. Even if you are or a normal or lower end of normal weight and have great tone on the rest of your body. I've lived with that forever sadly

The point is that belly can usually be reduced more easily by diet/exercise. Hips/thighs/booties can be toned and sexy but very difficult if not impossible to make slender.

New poster here. 100 pounds. 5’1”. Big belly. It runs in my family. We all have thin frames and gain in the belly. Maybe cutting out gluten works for some but not all. I’m East Asian and rarely eat gluten or sugar.

Same here. And it is worse thanks to diastasis recti.

I've started the mutu program hoping to strengthen and rebuild core muscles. I wear shapeweae often. Other than that I need to eat less (I'm petite and not overweight, but 10lbs above my ideal.

I think all of the posts should indicate whether you are in perimenopause or menopause yet. It’s been a total game changer for me in terms of belly fat. It’s like my body is preparing to become Mrs. Claus.

Sugar. Cut sugar and reduce carbs. Eat more protein. You will notice a difference. If you want to be more aggressive, do intermittent fasting and reduce sugar. By fasting, I mean, skip breakfast so that you have 16 hours of not eating. Hydrate, but no sugary drinks. Of course, reduce alcohol drinks as well. Sugar is what causes belly fat.

PP you are quoting and I think this is entirely hinged on whether or not you need to lose weight. If you are at a healthy weight and have a belly, its part of your shape. Same as having thicker thighs. Even if you lipo'd out every ounce of my torso I would still be pretty straight up and down.

135, 5’5”, also have a belly and very thin everywhere else. I only lost it when I got down to 120 from 4x per week of extremely intensive 2+ hrs a day exercise. Even then I still had a pooch. Not much to be done
