I am a woman with an enormous gut. I hate it and am ashamed.

Not true. It may help lose overall weight, but if you are genetically too heavy, nothing you eat or don’t eat changes that

Yes true.

I am an apple and I was holding about 10-15 pounds in my gut alone and I lost it by cutting out gluten, dairy and sugar. I actually have a flat belly and a waist now and I am fifty.

Try it OP. You can come back and brag in six weeks.

You still are top heavy relative to the rest of your body. An apple will never be a pear

I'm glad of that. Easier to reduce a gut than thick hips/thighs.

Fellow apple and COMPLETE disagree. A big booty is something you can have but still be "in shape", sexy, hot.etc and not be considered fat. There is no wiggle room to have a belly and be considered anything other than fat/chubby. Even if you are or a normal or lower end of normal weight and have great tone on the rest of your body. I've lived with that forever sadly

Agree with this and its cruel. Booty and hip fat is sexy and girls with tummies are shamed. Meanwhile, both are totally genetic.

+1. I've had a stomach my entire life. Doesn't matter how much weight I loose. I have a stomach. I'm trying to just accept this and start to find clothes that flatter an apple body type.

Omg...so true.

Yes, I always had a flat stomach even after a baby at 38. Ten years later though and my stomach is something I suddenly don’t recognize thanks peri menopause.

Be careful with this if you are bigger. You want to lose weight slowly and build muscle slowly. Last thing you want is to build muscle only to have it covered by loose skin.

Would anyone want to be a pear? I had lipo to stop being a pear.

I had a huge gut and got liposuction. When I left surgery, I was down 10 pounds. The anesthesiologist said (in the middle of a packed waiting room) it was the biggest liposuction he had ever seen in his life. They went over the amount they planned to take out, because there was so much fat.

Anyway. I’m happy with the results, but that comment still hurts.

It was in Los Angeles, where the beauty standards are so skinny. I’m still not skinny, I’m a size 10, but without that huge stomach at least I am proportioned now.

Does it still look good? I know someone who had a gut liposuctioned and said she gained roughly the same amount in her waist back. So while she now has a flat tummy she no longer has the hourglass figure fr9m before. Makes me nervous to do it.

Ironically when I do gain weight, it goes to my boobs! I did lipo in so many places on that surgery, it has nowhere else to go! I had lipo on my stomach, flanks, inner thighs, back, hips. I think a little also goes to my arms and legs, but I was always small arms and legs with a big stomach so it evens out. I had the lipo 12 years ago.

Honestly I’m surprised you’re a size 10. I’d think of those stats as pretty slender.

Drinking sodas and eating things high in salt really causes me to bloat.

I'm the other apple shape from this post and I'm a 8-10 at that height and weight. I'm not reliably into an 8 until I'm 145 or so (tend to shop brands like zara, all saints etc) I'm actually closer to 5'10. My waist does not go in almost at all.

I though I was adding a “big splash” of creamer but when I measured it out it was a 1/4 cup 😱 I drank 4 cups a day and ended up with a full cup of half and half each day that I wasn’t accounting for. I think that’s what a PP means about adding up every single morsel you eat to find out truly how many calories you are consuming.

So you think you drank the cool-aid and that all people here are morons, but you?! That people don't know fancy coffee called beverages are full of calories?

Wow you're rude. I thought her example was helpful.
