You still are top heavy relative to the rest of your body. An apple will never be a pear |
How do you know what my body is like? Sorry it bugs you to hear this, but no, I am not top-heavy anymore. True that I am not a pear. I am a slender hourglass now with a discernible waist. You can keep telling yourself you have no control over how heavy you are, or you can go gluten/dairy/sugar free for a couple months and see the results for yourself. |

I read something that apple shapes mean insulin issues and they should be on intermittent fasting/low carb diets. I'm not an apple (kinda just gain weight everywhere), but the low carb diets definitely make me lose most in my stomach.
Did you have kids? Could this be leftover diastasis recti? I plan on having surgery for it when I'm done. |
Actually I'm not overweight at all and have a very small waist. I work in the fitness industry and have never seen a woman with a "large gut" go on to have a narrow waist/hourglass. Sorry just doesn't happen. It doesn't mean you can't have a flat stomach and be in great shape, but a narrow waist compared to hips, no. |

I think if you preferentially carry fat in your belly, it's also related to cortisol (stress). Do you get enough sleep? Also, drink more water.
I agree with cutting out grains (not just gluten). Be aware that some vegetables can cause bloating. |
NP. I also was curious if OP maybe has diastasis recti. If so, look into a pelvic floor PT or go on mommastrong.com or try dia method. DO NOT do crunches, and be really careful with planks. If you do planks, walk your legs in so your butt is pretty high up in the air (but shoulders and chest are still over your wrists). That is safest for DR. |
| Op, do you drink alcohol? I’ve found when I cut alcohol from my diet it makes a shocking difference in my stomach. |
| Get rid of gluten, dairy, all processed foods. 16/8 intermittent fast. Pilates. By March you will be very different. |
Definitely get this assessed! You can find videos online to assess it yourself and then schedule PT and/or cautiously follow online videos. Do this before embarking on an exercise program. |
| Intermittent fasting. I was skeptical but it definitely works. I struggle with gaining weight in my midsection and IF has worked better than any diet I've ever tried. I actually have abs now. |
NP here and I, like the apple PP must be an exception because I have also rid myself of the apple shape. I am a naturally slender person who primarily gains weight in the gut. I have a slender waist and a small butt. There are two ways for me to overcome this... Intermittent fasting or a lower carb diet combined with regular cardio and strength training. I now have flat abs which gives me that slender hour glass shape. Notice I didn't say pear shape because that is impossible with my natural figure. The biggest thing is diet. At 5'2 I have to keep myself no more than 120 lbs or else that extra weight will just go right back to my belly. |
| Intermittent Fasting and cutting gluten and sugar will amaze you. Not that you shouldn't exercise, but you will absolutely see results without doing a thing other than IF and cutting gluten and sugar. |
| If it's from having children, you may never be able to truly lose the extra fat and sagging skin. Maybe you're not interested, but there are surgical options if it truly bothers you or diet and exercise doesn't work. |
You can always lose the fat. Extra skin is a different story. |
