That's two. If Romney sides with them, that's 3.

What about after election day during the lame duck. That is the rub. McConnell wont put it up for a vote before election day.

What’s with the GOP obsession with Catholics on the court?

Pro-life stuff?

Catholic Church’s obsession with sex and with controlling women’s bodies.

1. Trump appoints nominee.

2. Republicans don’t confirm a nominee, citing Garland principle.

3. Media grouses about Trump violating Garland principle and gives no credit to Senate’s forbearance.

4. Biden wins, expand size of the Supreme Court. Media celebrates this historic milestone.

Pretty much, except four is wrong. Biden nominates first African American woman to the Court and the new Dem Sebate confirms.

Agree. If for some reason the GOP is not able to fill this seat at this time, Biden would only fill the one seat and the status quo of 9 would remain.

GOP will fill her seat by January. Can lose Collins, Murk, Romney and that’s still a 50-50 tie that Pence will split.

Not fair. MANY MANY of us are just as D as you. This is R v. D, not Catholic v. something else.

Sorry, I was actually raised Catholic although I consider myself an atheist. I was reading about her and this was what was emphasized in the article

Oh sorry I didn’t mean you were obsessed. I meant the people who keep picking these psychotic nominees.

And her freakish adherence to religion is about the only thing about her.

Can you clarify? Most of the members at my Catholic church are Democrats...

She’s not just Catholic. She’s part of an odd splinter grouo that is not really Catholic called the People of Praise.

Yes, many many of you. But the church to which you send money, and frequently your children, is most definitely obsessed with controlling women’s bodies. It is the most consistent thing about the Catholic Church leadership, that and moving around pedophiles. Truly.

That’s the nut job flavor! I knew she was only sort of catholic, more like a splinter weirdo.

+1. My whole family is Catholic and they're all Democrats. And my FIL is on the parish council at his Catholic church and he's also a hardcore Democrat. Catholics and Eastern Orthodox tend to vote D.

Grassley has already said that he would not consider a SC justice nomination in 2020. So have Murkowski, Collins and Romney. Unless McConnell can pressure these four to change their minds, they have all publicly said that they would not vote to fill a SC seat in 2020. And they have all said so in the last few months.

Graham said it in 2018. So we'll see if he keeps his word.

Oh please. Graham is a Trump syncophant who has already changed his very vociferous opinions about many things to align with Trump. You can bet that he will continue to fawn over the President and will do whatever the President wants him to do.

I agree. And serious question: Why? What does Trump have on him?

Whatever it is, it must be choice.

What’s the old saying, “a dead girl or a live boy”?

Anonymous wrote:The GOP “no” votes will be: Collins, Murkowski, Sasse, Romney, Grassley, Gardner, and a couple others. That’s the ball game. Doug Jones is a principled liberal who is en route to a surprise re-election. Manchin ... who knows what he’ll do. Moot point. Seriously: this is really all y’all need to know. No new appointment. Sorry Trumpeters .

So if they won’t vote “Before” the election, what’s to stop them from voting on a nominee on 11/4?

Grassley, Romney and Collins have already said that they would not vote for a SC Justice in 2020. If Mark Kelly wins AZ (likely since he is up well over 10% in the polling and McSally was an appointee, not actually elected and is not very popular in AZ), then he will be seated on 11/4, since he is a special election replacement for Kyl).

So, right now, there are four senators (Grassley, Romney, Murkowski and Collins) that have said that they will not vote for a SC replacement before the election. So, McConnell is going to have to convince one of them to change his mind. The longer that takes, and the closer it gets to the election, the harder it will be to convince them.

If they make it to the election, then Grassley, Romney, Collins and Kelly will not vote in the lame duck session. McConnell would have to get one of the three R's to then break their word and change their mind and vote in the lame duck session.

Either way, it's not a slam dunk for McConnell. He'll be focused on making it happen, but it isn't going to be easy.

Trump lost popular vote by 2.9 million

Senate GOP represents 15 million fewer Americans than Senate Dems

Senate Ds got 18 million more votes than Senate Rs in 2018

There has never been majority support for Trump, GOP or their agenda
