Seriously, a little advice is fine but this ongoing campaign telling people what to do with their money is getting a little out of hand. Do what is best for you and let other people do what they feel is best for themselves. So, what business is it of yours regarding what people do with their money? |
Based on the last comment the poster probably works for United Way and wants your money so they can keep their job. |
LOL +1. Very weird and somewhat controlling nature tell someone who they should donate or give THEIR money to. |
|
Donate to food banks. Donate to shelters. Donate to hospitals. If you’ve done that or similar things, by all means, continue supporting local businesses even if you know you’re not getting a service in return. Just be aware that business owners know how to post on DCUM to sway opinion. |
No, I don’t care what you do with your money and I’m not here telling what to do with it either. That is the difference. If you want to wait and see, that is fine and reasonable. If you want to put down a deposit, well, that’s your choice as well. Only you can decide what is best for you and what is within your personal comfort zone. |
| Maybe the OP is speaking from a peer pressure perspective. If your friends are putting in a deposit, you're almost pressured into it as well so you're not missing out. Truth is ... there is a team for everyone that is willing to pay and play once Covid goes away (ha!) or once families are comfortable playing with the risk. It's pay to play. There will always be an opportunity to join a team around the DMV -- you don't have to be a superstar to play travel. |
Thank you, coach. Where should I bring my deposit? Looking forward to our zoom sessions in the fall, LOL. |
I think we all understand that this fall presents significant risk. Do what works for you and your family. |
Good try. Im not a coach. Im a mom of a kid who loves soccer. We signed up. I don't think there will be games- maybe just practices. Thats okay. Its my money. Its just funny that someone thinks their opinion "There are much worthier candidates for charity donations than expensive soccer programs." Is in fact a guidebook for how others should spend their money is ridiculous. |
You can spend your money whichever way you want, but when you post publicly about how you spend your money, people are free to criticize you. |
Just because you can, should you? |
Yes |
Which club is this? |
Frankly, it is none of your effing business how I spend MY money. |
|
I was curious to see what other clubs were doing so this thread got my attention. We got the offer and the payment schedule with the $500 deposit requirement and a notice that we will be getting complete new uniforms, so another $300. During the shut down, the team has had just 2 Zoom calls, no weekly check-ins or an app for regular training. Just a few reminders to keep up the skills. We weren't happy with the exorbitant fee for sub-standard coaching, sometime no coaching staff at games, few tournament scheduled and club owner arrogance last season, so the pandemic made this really easy...we opted out, as did many families.
If you're satisfied with your club and you have the funds, by all means, commit. I can't see making a payment to any club, especially one you weren't satisfied with or 'on the fence' about until we more is known. I just don't think Fall soccer is in the cards. If the clubs want you bad enough, especially the younger age groups, there will be a spot. Maybe this time will also give some clubs a realty check about touting expensive clubs that don't deliver...they are mentioned in lots of DC area soccer threads these days with not so great commentary. |
