Do you know any wealthy people who actually drive low-key cheap cars?

This thread might win the award for most humble brags. And that's a high bar on DCUM.

Nearly every genuinely rich couple we know drives new, frequently traded in luxury cars and SUVs. New fully loaded Jeep Grand Cherokees, Tahoes and Yukons are also common. The cheapest cars would be like a new 2020 Mini Cooper and the new little Tesla Model 3. Literally nobody rich we know is daily driving some clunker. Is this myth just a coping technique by less affluent driving humble autos?

Nah. I know old rich cheeeeeeeeap people. They drive total “clunkers” by your standards. You and your friends are prob new rich- which is totally cool- because that’s how later generations become old rich

The rich I know drive older sedans: Audi 4 and Camry. 2 other ones drive fairly new Mercedes models but never big cars.
They are like 50 to 100 mil rich.

My mom drives some kind of Toyota. My dad drives a Ford Pick Up. They have a gorgeous home. They spend money on travel, clothes, jewelry, ....and they give a lot to charity. Vehicles aren’t important to them. I’ve noticed the same in their wealthy friends. Driving flashy cars is more of a new money thing.

With a side of slavery.

I bet OP lives somewhere that people spend a lot of times in cars. If that was my life, I’dl probably prioritize a luxury car. Instead, I pay more to live in a close in suburb so I don't have to spend time in my car. That’s what most of the wealthy people I know do.

Sounds like hell on earth.

One of my best friends had 6yo mini van that her kids basically trashed inside. Many 100's of millions $$$ net worth as her DH & 2 partners sold company for just under 4 billion. They spend money on travel and just recently, homes. First few years after sale still lived in fairly modest cape cod. Friend DID have van professionally cleaned often but disgusting inside. She bought a ford SUV next. Her DH has a nicer sedan car but spent more on a custom made bicycle.

I do. One mom at my kids school drives a Honda Pilot. I know they are very wealthy and she dresses and donated. Another mom drives a Bentley and looks like crap everyday.

I think it depends if you are rich cheap like someone said above or like to spend it.

You wouldn't know they were rich, OP. Obviously.

My rich relatives have some nice personal cars but they typically are driven around by their chauffeurs in their minivans. They live in a city with no parking and they want to maximize seats when they’re being driven around.

6 year old car isn't old. Why would you let your kids trash your car and house?
