That’s kind of funny. I’m not DC rich but we are top 1% and I am adamant about driving inexpensive cars. I tend to ding them. The idea probably comes from the millionaire next door. You probably don’t know those people the book refers to because you run in different circles. |
| Definitely UMC and drive a 17 year old compact. Low mileage..gets me places. |
| My boss drives a Toyota Camry or a Sienna to work every day. She also has a six-figure sports car for fun. |
|
We do but:
We have lots of cars, none of which was too expensive. |
| I drive a 5 year old Subaru Forester and my husband drives a used 2015 Mercedes E350. We are definitely wealthy but fancy, expensive cars are just not our thing. Our cars aren’t low end or cheap, just really good cars for the money. |
Oh and I do know people with very high incomes who drive Honda Civic type caes. They exist. A lot of the wealthy people who are driving inexpensive cars arent fancy dc lawyer or doctors. They are kind of fly-under-the-radar wealthy, maybe a guy who owns a feed store and has a net worth of 5M and hangs out with oil field buddies. |
I may know your uncle. The minivan isn't exactly a clunker, it's loaded and he trades it in for a new every year or two. And in my opinion it's a shtick, a performance since he's the filthy rich owner of the company. Also, his wife drives a new $80,000 Mercedes SUV. And they live in a ridiculous mansion. |
Weird variety. |
| This thread is embarrassing. Have some self respect. And at least get a BMW. Or Audi. But Honda? No. |
| My parents are millionaires and my step father drives a 77 Chevy. It’s got a rebuilt engine and it’s been painted but it’s the same car. Sometimes my mom makes him drive her 1987 Ford Explorer. She has a newer Toyota. |
| While I was in college in the mid-90s my Dad was the CFO of a company while it went public and then they sold it to Marriott a couple years later, so he made bank twice. He was driving an ‘82 Rabbit he bought used. Now his net worth is eight figures and he drives a 12-year-old BMW that he bought used. |
My sorority sister was making a killing in medical sales in her 30s and 40s, so she treated herself to a new Range Rover. Bad idea! The competitor reps started telling surgeons she was making more a year than them, not only driving a new Range Rover, but all sorts of other lies about a fabricated lavish lifestyle. So when the surgeons would see her Range Rover in the lot, in their eyes it confirmed the lavish fairytales too. She quickly traded in the Range for a more modest Tahoe. lol |
| My husband drives a 10 year old Subaru and I drive a 10 yo Ford. I have bought horses more expensive than my car. I just don’t care about mechanical horsepower. |
5M net worth, HHI>600K, drive Kia and very happy with it. |
| No!! The rich people I know buy and lease cars like hot potatoes. And when I say rich, I mean RICH! |
