Do you know any wealthy people who actually drive low-key cheap cars?

Yes. One of the wealthiest people in Asia at one point in time. Drives a Honda.

I do. Entertainment attorney, represents at least 5 clients everyone on this board would recognize. Drives a used Honda Civic in and out of the city for street parking. Wife drives a (newer) Subaru station wagon.

Half of my family is in CT’s Gold Coast. Every other car is a Range Rover or Tesla. On the weekends gobs of Porsches, Ferraris and Lamborghinis.

This is like my in laws. They are very well off and during the week they drive their very beat up cars - a mini van and subaru. On the weekend they drive their beautiful new Porsche. Go figure.

I’m more of an aspiring wealthy person. I drive a 2014 rav4. We had an Audi Q5 for a while but that was a total pos and we felt like awful poseurs. It died and we now prefer the rav4

How do you think those people got rich in the first place? That kind of mindset doesn't suddenly end.

They got rich because their parents were rich. Duh.

HHI $2M. We have a Prius and a Honda Odyssey minivan. Our time is valuable. We don’t want a car that needs to be taken in for a lot of maintenance.

Nearly every genuinely rich couple we know drives new, frequently traded in luxury cars and SUVs. New fully loaded Jeep Grand Cherokees, Tahoes and Yukons are also common. The cheapest cars would be like a new 2020 Mini Cooper and the new little Tesla Model 3. Literally nobody rich we know is daily driving some clunker. Is this myth just a coping technique by less affluent driving humble autos?

Jeep is a luxury brand? Wow

Fully loaded Grand Cherokee is usually $60-100K... they are nothing special when I test drove one but some like it. Mini Cooper is not lucxary.

That would be us. Cars are probably the last thing we’d spend money on. Maybe if we were billionaires. We drive a 5 year old Honda Civic that we will probably own another 10+ years at least. $3M+ income\ $25M+ net worth

Isn’t that essentially everyone other than a rich person?

No. Some people don’t care about money and don’t care about becoming rich.

My uncle is .5 percent wealthy. He has two cars. A very expensive Mercedes and 20 yo Infiniti SUV that he bought new. He has also had an expensive BMW and in the 80s had a Mercedes convertible. He buys expensive cars and drives them forever.

That is a suburb of New York. Not considered New England. Yankee fans.

I just recalled this sort of smug couple in the neighborhood who waxed on how they didn't like cars, cars were just point A to point B, blah blah, had an old Honda CRV and Subaru. As soon as one of their parents passed away and they got a nice inheritance, they moved and bought a new BMW coupe and Land Rover SUV. lol

Of course. New money.
