Do you know any wealthy people who actually drive low-key cheap cars?

My SO is a partner at his firm and drives a Mazda3. A friend of mine insisted on driving his Ford Focus into the ground long after he made partner. They both come from middle class families. Frugality, especially when you see that it actually works, is a hard habit to break.

That car was great looking before it met me. Now it drives great, but is scratched and dented in many places. I could afford any car but why would I? I know my limitations.

I drive a 13yo BMW for the same reason. It looks like it's been through the Thunderdome. I'm going to destroy anything I get, so why buy something new?

Interesting how you don't say anything about the politicians getting carted around alone or with a single staffer in black Suburbans get a pass.

I can only speak for one politician who did not care what he drove in as it turns out it was an old beat up Honda without AC many days, which he rode in for 3 years with no complaint.
I'm not on his side of the aisle, but I will always admire him for his go with the flow attitude.

They have no other cars?

There is no luxury minivan. For people who want the practicality of a van, their choices are fairly limited.

Yep Mackenzie Bezos drives a Honda Odyssey. She’s loaded but she’s also a single mom of four.

She is a broke striver. If she had real $$$ she'd be in an Audi Q7 or BMW X3.

You can’t fit four kids in an X3.

I have a x3
You can fit one kid in the front and 3 in the back.

Well if Mackenize keeps up the hard work one day she'll be as wealthy as you

I know a rich couple who has a tiny Fiat 500 that’s a couple years old and worth perhaps $8,000. But it’s their “city car” — because it’s so easy to park and navigate.

2013 Honda CRV
2010 RaV 4
2006 Civic ( can not kill it) three teens and huge blocks of ice falling off a house in a Syracuse NY still going.

Yes we are wealthy. Cars depreciating assests but bought on 0% financing make your money work for you.

Oh what a trite line. Most wealthy people do not consider their cars to be assets even if cars have some market value. Most purchase their cars with the mental state of making a one-time expenditure. Like most things that serve a utilitarian function, cars depreciate. You can say the same thing about bikes, clothing, cookware, etc. I can guarantee you most wealthy people have nicer things even if they are all "depreciating assets".

Mazda3 is a great car. I drove one forever and still miss it. Didn't do it for frugality though. I completely forgot that there is such thing as changing your car every once in awhile. The car ran well and since it had no problems, I completely forgot about wanting a new car. Hard to explain. It took me from A to B, i didn't have to worry about it being scratched or the car even being where I left it, the insurance was dirty cheap, I lent it to my friend with no worries. Amazing how a good old car can make you feel so good.
I bought a brand new car and felt like I had to be careful where I parked and how and told the kids to keep it clean. Exhausting. Can't wait for this car to become old.
