zipper is fine and works

but I think the OP is talking about people  who l ride down the thru lane. while other cars have properly merged.. and then force their way in so they can pick up half a dozen extra car lengths

when traffic is flowing.  the merger should get up to speed with traffic and blend in.  but people around have this aversion to pushing the go pedal to get up to speed to safely merge.[/quote]

Sometimes, yes.

But I think what pp means is two lanes splitting - one is going straight, and the other is veering right, towards some sort of exit or different road. And instead of lining up in that right lane, they cruise in the left lane - going in a different direction - cut ahead of people and then merge into the right veering/turning lane at the last minute. These people are jerks and know they're being jerks, but their sense of entitlement are what drives them. [/quote]
