Did your family members become more vocally racist after Trump?

I would say it's the been mixed in my case (white family).

My father in law, who has some definitely racist views, has started talking about his own racism in much more frank terms. Like, "I see a person of this ethnic/racial background and I think XYZ and I have started catching myself and recognizing that those are racist thoughts"

So, yes -- he has been expressing racist views more. But, he has been very reflective and frank about this, in a way that suggests that he is trying to change. I definitely push him on these points, but he's pretty open minded to being challenged and apparently wants to not be racist.

Other family members are still very quiet about talking about race, but they have certainly become less bigoted about LGBT+ individuals over the last few years, which is good. We couldn't even discuss same sex relationships in front of my nephew a decade ago and now they recognize it as normal.

My brother-in-law and yes - he’s definitely more vocally racist. He’s also a christian and tells everyone that he’s a Christian Right before spouting some truly ill-informed opinion on African Americans, gays, Muslims and all immigrants.

It’s truly disgusting.

My parents did a little.

This probably doesn't apply to you.

I think mine got less so. I grew up hearing racist jokes and talk about the “city.” But I think Trump scared my good-ol-boy family somehow—like “hey, we weren’t REALLY racist”

My family wasn't racist to begin with so, no. But whites dudes have certainly become more whiny since they have the strong example in this diaper baby president who cries and tweets (tweets! I'm still in shock) every time something doesn't go his way. And of course the racists feel better and more confident about themselves, as do the ignorant and the vulgar, now that their role model Trump is in office.

No of course not

Name one piece of evidence that there is a war on white Protestants.

My left-wing bat-sh!t crazy cousins spew vitriol for white privileged although they are white and privileged themselves.

They vehemently protect their horded wealth and their hypocrisy towards helping the poor is beyond disgusting.

They have gotten worse since Trump was elected.
I believe they were radicalized during the Obama era.

+1. This. If you want to see racism everywhere, you will see racism.

My ILs are Republicans who are and always have been racist. It became much worse under Trump to the point they have been cut off.
I've watched it dissolve many of my parents' friendships as well. These friends were adopted family for 50y+. It is a fundamental values question. Since they wouldn't quit with the racist bs, maintaining a relationship wasn't possible even though we are all white.
My SO is white, hispanic, and native american but looks white. Ironically, it is his family (except his father) who are the most racist trash I've ever come across. Obviously SO isn't racist and I made the mistake of not meeting his extended family until years in. His mother's racism was better hidden and more subtle. I'm also the poster who excluded IL's from the wedding bc they couldn't be trusted to behave even short term around our diverse guests.

There are no degrees of racist. You are just racist. Not mildly or slightly, just racist.

I’m a white Protestant and I don’t feel at all as if there’s a war against me. Can you provide details? Perhaps I should be stocking provisions and ammunition.

Surprisingly no. I am from Mississippi. Trump country for sure. My southern baptist, far right, evangelical, life long Republican family members all voted for Trump. Thankfully, they are well-educated, well-traveler, and smart. Every one of them has admitted Trump was a mistake. They will not vote for him again. They may be conservative, but they aren’t racists.
